  • Nintendo has released a new poster for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
  • It comes ahead of the film's final trailer, which will drop on Monday, March 9
  • The artwork reveals two classic villains will appear in the animated flick

A new poster for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (TSMGM) has been unveiled by Nintendo — and it confirms two more Mario villains will show up in the hotly-anticipated sequel.

Released today (March 6), the artwork features plenty of familiar faces, including *deep breath* Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Bowser, Rosalina, Bowser Jr, and Birdo. Look below Birdo and Yoshi, though, and you'll be able to spot a certain crown-wearing frog.

Only the oldest of Nintendo fans will immediately recognize this character. For the rest of you, that's Wart.

"Erm, who?", I hear you ask. Wart. You know, the primary antagonist of Super Mario Bros. 2, who also wants to conquer Subcon, aka the Land of Dreams, with his gang known as the 8 bits. Not ringing any bells? Stop reading this article, and go and play Super Mario Bros. 2 immediately.

Wart isn't the only foe recently confirmed to appear in the sequel to the billion dollar-spinning The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Look just above Wart on the poster, and you'll spot a sunglasses-wearing rodent. For the uninitiated, that's Mouser, a villain that players are tasked with defeating three times in Super Mario Bros. 2.

Given Wart and Birdo — the latter also appeared as a bad guy (or should that be bad gal?) in the aforementioned Nintendo title — it was highly likely that Mouser would feature in TSMGM, too.

There's no word on how big of a role Wart, Mouser, and Birdo will have, nor do we know which of the film's heroes they'll encounter. My best guess? They'll be secondary villains to Bowser and his son, with that pair facing against Mario and Luigi, and Wart and company being the Big Bads that Peach and Toad will encounter on whatever side quest they're on.

One of this year's most exciting new movies is already looking pretty packed on the cast front, but there are bound to be more surprises in store for audiences. In fact, one of them has already been spoiled ahead of time, with one Super Mario Galaxy Movie leak seemingly confirming another major franchise character that will show up.

Will they be officially announced ahead of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's release on April 1? Who knows. What we do know, however, is that the film's final trailer will premiere on Monday, March 9 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT, so make sure you tune into the next Nintendo Direct to watch it.
