Waaaa! A new Super Mario Galaxy Movie leak has spoiled a major character reveal — and it's another of the Nintendo mascot's popular foes

  • A major character's appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has leaked online
  • The spoiler is part of a new story synopsis on a theater chain's website
  • Nintendo and Universal are yet to have it removed from said plot brief

Nintendo and Universal executives will be screaming "Waaaa!" today (February 23) after a major character's appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (TSMGM) leaked online.

The animated sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, TSMGM's release is, at the time of publication, just over a month away. Indeed, one of 2026's many new movies is due out in theaters on April 1.

Unfortunately for the legendary Japanese videogame company and its film studio partner, though, one of TSMGM's biggest surprises appears to have been accidentally revealed ahead of time. Full spoilers immediately follow, including in the screenshot below, for the forthcoming film. Turn back now if you don't want to know anything else!

Per the website of UK theater chain Everyman Cinema, none other than Wario, another of Mario's most staunchest of enemies, is set to feature as part of TSMGM's growing ensemble. Indeed, as the movie's description on the website reads, the legendary Italian plumber and his allies will have to deal with "Wario and Bowser Jr.'s evil alliance" as part of its primary narrative.

This isn't the first we've heard of Bower Jr.'s involvement in the follow-up to one of 2024's highest-grossing movies. Confirmation of his role as antagonist-in-chief came as part of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's official trailer unveiling alongside the news that writer/director Benny Safdie (The Smashing Machine, Uncut Gems) would voice him.

Wario's big-screen debut, though, was likely being kept under wraps by Nintendo and Universal, so this leak will be a major blow to the pair's plan to keep the long-time Mario adversary's appearance a secret. At the time of this article's publication at 3pm GMT on Monday, February 23, Wario hasn't been removed from the plot brief, either, so it's possible that Nintendo and Universal aren't aware his appearance has even been spoiled.

Wario and Bowser Jr. aren't the only Mario franchise characters who'll make their silver screen debut in TSMGM. Lumas protector-in-chief Princess Rosalina is also set to feature, with Marvel actor Brie Larson voicing her. Last month, we also finally received our first look at Mario ally Yoshi, the green dinosaur's appearance being teased in The Super Mario Bros. Movie's mid-credits scene.

Unfortunately for Donkey Kong fans, his name was missing from the cast list when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's name and launch date were announced last September. Don't expect to see the Mario villain-turned-ally pop up in the latter's next cinematic adventure, then.

While we wait for its release, find out everything we know so far about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Or, if you're looking further ahead, get the full lowdown on The Legend of Zelda Movie, which will premiere in theaters sometime in 2027.
