  • Prime Video has released some first-look images for Invincible season 4
  • They give us a look at the acclaimed show's new villains
  • Amazon's adult animated series will return sometime in March

Prime Video has unveiled the first images for Invincible season 4 – and they reveal some of the new villains we'll meet in the hit show's next chapter.

Posted on Invincible's various social channels, the stills give us our first official look at antagonistic figures in the form of Dinosaurus and Universa. However, it's Grand Regent Thragg who steals the show, with the Viltrum Empire's menacing ruler getting an ominous, shadow-drenched image that hints at his incredibly cruel nature.

For those who may have missed it last October, Prime Video announced that Foundation star Lee Pace will voice Thragg from Invincible season 4 onwards. Confirmation of Pace's addition to the cast came three months after Amazon revealed Matthew Rhys (The Beast in Me, The Americans) had been hired to play Dinosaurus.

They aren't the only newcomers to the series' ever-expanding cast. Danai Gurira is also on board, with the Black Panther actor portraying Universa. In joining the voice-cast roster, Gurira becomes the 10th The Walking Dead alumnus to land a role on the adult animated show.

When will we see the official trailer for Invincible season 4?

With Invincible's fourth season set to arrive sometime in March, the big questions on everyone's lips now are: when will its official trailer be released? And what is its actual launch date?

The short answer to both is: we don't know. However, the reveal of these new images, plus a recent interview co-creator Robert Kirkman conducted with Forbes, suggest we'll learn more sooner rather than later. After all, if you're Amazon, why release these new images if you're not about to ramp up your marketing push with release date and official trailer reveals?

But back to that Forbes chat I mentioned. Teasing what viewers – those who haven't read the comics, anyway – can expect this time around, Kirkman said: "[Season four is going to be] brutal, but not in the standard way you expect from seeing seasons one through three. It’s still brutal in that way but, season four is brutal in so many emotional ways that I think will catch people off guard."

As for what lies in store for Mark after the incredibly violent and character-defining Invincible season 3 finale, Kirkman added: "Mark is on a journey to discover who he is. That’s really the thrust of his story as he moves from adolescence into adulthood.

"I believe that at his core Mark is a good person, but as he grows as a person and adjusts his methods to accomplish his goals he may not always seem like a good person or a hero," Kirkman added.
