6 smart plant-care gadgets that will help your houseplants thrive, with minimal effort and expertise required
Clever tech to turn your home into a houseplant haven
Not everyone is blessed with green fingers. I count myself amongst that unfortunate subset of people who love how plants brighten up a space, but just can't manage to keep them alive for longer than a couple of weeks at a time.
Thankfully, nowadays there's tech that might just come to the rescue — and not just for serial plant-assassins, but also for anyone who goes away regularly, or is too busy to keep up with plant care, or has a home that's just not conducive to thriving greenery.
These gadgets can do a lot of the heavy lifting, both in terms of knowledge and physical care. There are sensors that slot into your plant pots, monitor the growing conditions and report back if something's amiss, so you don't have to rely on internet searches, guesswork and cross-referencing.
As a basement flat-dweller, I'm also interested in the options that come with a daylight-mimicking lamp that switches itself on and off as required, to deliver the right amount of vitamin D to support plant growth. These smart planters often also offer passive watering, so you don't even need to remember to do that.
