The Rings of Power season 3 has officially wrapped filming, and I've got thoughts about when it'll launch on Prime Video

  • Filming has wrapped on The Rings of Power season 3
  • Amazon officially confirmed as much on December 10
  • The announcement indicates a late 2026 release isn't out of the question

Amazon has confirmed that filming has wrapped on The Rings of Power season 3.

Revealed yesterday (December 10) on the high fantasy show's social media channels, Amazon officially announced that season 3's shooting schedule had been completed. And, to celebrate the end of principal photography on The Rings of Power's latest season, the ecommerce giant released a 30-second video that – unfortunately – doesn't give us the slightest hint about what to expect from its next chapter.

With the cameras beginning to roll on The Rings of Power season 3 in late July, it's taken just over four months for the Prime Video TV show's cast and crew to film what they need for the forthcoming installment.

Of course, it's likely that reshoots and/or pick ups will be required in the months ahead to help with each episode's narrative flow. Right now, though, work can commence on the next stage of The Lord of the Rings TV prequel's third season – that being, its lengthy post-production phase.

When will The Rings of Power season 3 be released on Prime Video?

There's no set launch date for the return of one of the best Prime Video shows yet. However, despite the amount of post-production work that needs to be completed before it arrives, I wouldn't rule out a late 2026 release window for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power's next entry.

Indeed, the series' first season dropped in September 2022, just over a year after filming had wrapped on its pandemic-hit shooting schedule. Meanwhile, season 2 premiered 14 months after the cameras stopped rolling in June 2023, meaning The Rings of Power's sophomore outing made landfall in August 2024.

As I keep saying, the amount of time it'll take to complete post-production on season 3 means there's no chance of an early or mid-2026 release. If Amazon wants the next chapter to launch as soon as possible and give fans something to watch over the 2026 festive season, releasing season 3 on one of the world's best streaming services next December would be a safe bet. I guess we'll find out if that's possible in the months ahead.
