As it's Friday the 13th, there's no better time to check out some of the best horror movies. Whether you're superstitious or not, and even though it's March, it's fun to lean into the unlucky and cursed history behind the date.

To save you from scrolling through all the best streaming services, I've selected some of my favorite movies that were added in March so you can skip the scrolling and get right to the action.

Where to watch: Kanopy

Well obviously. Where else was I going to start, aside from, you guessed it, Friday the 13th? Lucky for you, it's streaming on Kanopy for free in March, so you don't even need to break the bank to watch it.

If you haven't seen it or need a recap of the plot, it follows a group of young camp counsellors who are murdered one by one while they're attempting to open an abandoned summer camp, Camp Crystal Lake. Don't let the nice name fool you, this place has a tragic past, and it was here where we met the new iconic horror figure, Jason Voorhees.

Serving as the inspiration for countless slasher films that followed, Friday the 13th continues to be popular 46 years later.

I Saw the TV Glow

Where: Prime Video

If you're anything like me, TV has shaped you. We all have our favorite shows from years past, the kind we like to rewatch for a much-needed dose of nostalgia. I Saw the TV Glow explores this subject, and the result is a horror movie that is uncomfortable, devastating, and very profound.

It's also beautiful to watch, making it a really special entry into the genre. Set in 1996, the movie follows two isolated teenagers, Owen and Maddy, as they bond over the young adult show The Pink Opaque. What starts as a simple love of TV becomes much deeper as they begin to question their reality and identities.

I really love this movie, and it makes me emotional every time I see it.

Paranormal Activity

Where: Pluto TV

Paranormal Activity was a hugely successful found footage horror movie that spawned a franchise and even a London stage play, but you really can't beat the original.

Made on a tiny budget, the movie takes us inside the home of a young couple who are haunted by a supernatural presence. Desperate to see what's going on, they then set up a camera to document everything.

What follows is some of the creepiest, eerily real footage you'll ever see. It's my favorite found footage horror for a reason.

The Shallows

Where to watch: Prime Video

Blake Lively goes head-to-head with a great white shark in this nail-biting survival horror. She plays a medical student who gets stranded 200 yards from shore after being bitten by a shark, and she must do everything she can to survive.

Despite the movie being set largely in one location, it's far from boring, and you'll be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. It's scarily believable, too, and certainly kept me away from the sea for a while.

I highly recommend this for any fans of shark movies or creature features in general.

Bodycam

Where to watch: Shudder

Finally, new release Bodycam is well worth your time and is fresh on the streaming service today.

Running for just 75 minutes, Bodycam is a short watch, but it packs a mighty punch. It follows two police officers as they try to cover up an accidental shooting because they don't want to be vilified by the public.

Turns out public perception is the least of their worries, and they soon find out that something is watching them. If you love effective jump scares and shocking moments, this one is for you.
