ExpressVPN is a mainstay in our best VPN rankings, thanks to its focus on security and an excellent streaming performance. Plus, thanks to a recent shakeup of its pricing structure, it's never been more accessible.

Still, you might decide that you want a VPN with more built-in tools or simultaneous connections, and with the Cyber Monday VPN sales still in full swing, it's a good time to shop around. The good news is that cancelling your ExpressVPN subscription and claiming your money back is a cinch.

How to cancel ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN has made it easy to cancel your subscription and put a stop to auto-renewals. I've run through the steps below – though they might vary slightly depending on the device you're using and your original payment method.

To cancel your ExpressVPN subscription:

  1. Head to the ExpressVPN homepage, hit "My Account", and log in with your credentials when prompted.
  2. Click "My Subscription" from the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. Next, click "Edit subscription settings" and then "Turn Off Automatic Renewal".
  4. ExpressVPN will ask you to confirm whether you really want to cancel, so run through the prompts and you'll eventually see a screen letting you know that your subscription has been cancelled.

How to get a refund from ExpressVPN

The steps above will put a stop to future auto-renewal payments (though you'll still be able to use ExpressVPN until the last day of your subscription). The process doesn't automatically grant you a refund, however, and you'll need to reach out to customer support to claim it.

This is pretty much the case for all of our top providers – and ExpressVPN's process is one of the smoothest.

So long as you're eligible for a refund, and within the 30-day window of purchase, all you'll need to do is open a live chat with the team. They're available 24/7, and will ask you a few standard questions about why you're cancelling, as well as for details like your email, date of purchase, payment method, and the like.

Then, once your refund has been processed, you'll receive it within 5-7 business days.

It is worth noting, however, that things are slightly different for folks who purchased their ExpressVPN plan via the Apple App Store. If you did, you won't need to reach out to ExpressVPN for a refund, because the Apple team will handle it.

If you bought a subscription via the Google Play Store, on the other hand, you still need to strike up a conversation with ExpressVPN to claim your money back.
