- The Philips Café Aromis is a premium bean-to-cup coffee maker
- It can use larger doses of coffee than previous Philips machines
- It also has a 'conversational' assistant to adjust brew settings automatically
Philips has launched a new premium bean-to-cup coffee maker that can grind extra-large doses of coffee, giving more flavor when you choose drinks with a higher volume, or decide to add an extra shot to your latte or cappuccino. Brewing a double shot of espresso (or more) uses more water than a single shot, and therefore requires more beans to achieve the same ratio of coffee to water. The new Philips Café Aromis can grind a larger dose than the company's other machines, ensuring you get the best possible flavour with larger drinks.
The Café Aromis launched in the US last month and is now available in the UK for £849.99 from Argos, Currys, John Lewis, and direct from the Philips Home Appliances store.
Other features include Barista Assistant — an app available on your phone and the machine itself, which uses conversational prompts to determine the best brew settings for your chosen drink and beans, and adjusts the machine automatically. No barista experience required.

Like all the best espresso machines released over the last few months, the Café Aromis can brew both hot and cold coffee. It has a huge menu of 50 drinks (the most I've ever seen from a home coffee maker), and allows you to take your pick from seven intensity settings.
It has a milk-frothing system with two carafes — one for hot milk and one for cold — and no tubes, so you can clean everything in a matter of minutes, and there's no need to worry about milk residue being left behind.
I'll be testing the Café Aromis soon to see whether it lives up to Philips' claims of "that unmistakable cafe-like taste" at home, and if it can earn a place in our full roundup of the best coffee makers.
