Tailor-made habits

Habitify lets you create good habits as well as break bad ones. Good habits include things like meditating, reading, running, and journaling, while bad habits include smoking, overeating, nail biting, and having too much screen time. The app provides a range of presets, but it’s also possible to create your own custom habit by entering the details manually or by using AI prompts.

Coming up with effective habits requires some self-reflection. Think about the parts of your life that could do with a bit of attention. It might relate to health, fitness, mind, mood, career, or study. Whatever it is, make sure you’re committed to doing something about it before you begin.

Once you've set up your habits, it’s time to add them to specific ‘areas’. This is one of the most innovative and helpful parts of the Habitify app. Areas can relate to times of the day, such as the morning, afternoon, or evening, but can also center around specific places like the gym, the swimming pool, or that morning walk to work. By grouping related habits, you’ll know exactly what habits you need to focus on at different times of the day or when you’re in specific locations. It also helps keep your list of habits decluttered.

Keep motiviated

When you’ve completed a habit, it’s time to set it to complete. This is one of the most satisfying parts of the whole process because your body releases dopamine, which is a key part of the brain’s reward system. This drives motivation and provides a surge of pleasure when a goal is reached.

Habits can be actioned quickly using swipes, with a left swipe logging the habit as complete and a right swipe opening other options, including the ability to add a note. It’s also possible to add integrations with platforms like Apple Health, Fitbit, and Strava. These connections let Habitify automatically mark off habits when they’ve been tracked as completed by associated health gear.

To help with progress, Habitify offers streaks reporting so you can see which of your habits are moving in the right direction and which have stalled. There are also graphs and stats that let you drill down into each specific habit.

Another way to keep motivated is to connect with friends through the app. It might be creating a circle of your running buddies or like-minded friends who want to keep each other accountable for their eating habits. The ‘Friends’ tab lets you share progress, offer encouragement, and achieve your goals with others.

Time to make a start

If you’re keen to get on the habit-tracking bandwagon, then I’d recommend starting small. Your first step should feel so easy that you can’t say no. Two-minute habits are a fantastic starting point. It’s then a case of showing up every day, something that is feasible if you’ve picked small daily actions rather than large, unachievable goals. And finally, be patient. Lasting change doesn’t happen overnight.

Habitify offers both free and premium plans. The free version has very limited functionality with a maximum of three habits and no integrations or advanced reminders. Premium, on the other hand, delivers full functionality with unlimited habits and full integration.

Habitify Premium costs $6.99 per month or $39.99 per year. In the UK, it costs £2.50 per month and is billed annually at £29.99. Lifetime options are also available.
