Look, I'm going to be brutally honest: I hate crises. They're a pain in the ass. There's never been a good crisis, and the latest one to hit the tech industry, the dreaded RAM crisis, really sucks, as it's making pretty much everything that uses memory, including laptops, rise in price.
This means it's incredibly difficult to find a budget laptop that's worth buying these days. However, as much as I hate crises, I love deals, and there are some brilliant Presidents Day sales going on for laptops from major brands like HP, Dell, and Asus that can help you beat the price rises.
To make things as easy as possible, I've highlighted the six best Presidents Day laptop deals I've found — all for under $400.
If you're looking for an excellent Windows 11 laptop for under $400, then I recommend the Dell 15 laptop, which is currently $399.99 thanks to a decent $220 discount from Dell's online store. With a 13th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of DDR5 RAM and 512GB SSD, this is a great choice for people looking for an affordable laptop with a large 15.6-inch screen to do day-to-day work on.
There's also the Asus Vivobook 16 for $399.99 from Best Buy. This has better spec with a more powerful AMD Ryzen AI 5 processor and 16GB of memory, though the larger 16-inch screen might not be for everyone.
If you do want a larger screen, check out the HP Laptop 17, now $379.99 from HP's online store. With a huge $510 knocked off the price, this is a rare chance to get a big-screen laptop for under $400, though note that the 256GB SSD is a bit on the small side.
Finally, if you're looking for solid and dependable laptops for under $400, you should also check out Chromebooks, which run on the lightweight ChromeOS software, rather than Windows 11, and are particularly great laptops for students. I've picked out the gorgeously-designed Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go for $209, the 2-in-1 Asus Chromebook Flip CX1 for $279.99, and ultra-portable HP Chromebook Laptop 14 for just $219.99.
So, it actually is possible to find a decent laptop for under $400. Crisis, what crisis?
