New movies: the most exciting films coming to theaters in July 2026
Another work week is in the books, and you know what means — yep, it's time to watch one of the many new movies that have handed into a theater near you.
As well as films that have recently landed on the big screen, two new films — Rosebush Pruning and the live-action remake of Moana — have joined the fray. So, if you're looking for something completely new to check out this weekend (July 10-12), one or both might take your fancy.
If not, there'll be plenty more new movies arriving at your local cinema between now and the end of the year. So, read on to see what's coming before July is over — and I promise that flicks debuting between August and December will be added very, very soon!
New movies: July
Moana
Release date: out now (worldwide)
Another Disney live-action remake that, given the original only arrived 10 years ago, has left people scratching their heads over who asked for it is out now in theaters across the globe.
If, for whatever reason, you don't know about Moana, it tells the story of the titular heroine and demigod Maui — once again played by Dwayne Johnson — as they set sail to turn the tide against Te Kā, a volanic demon that threatens Moana's island home.
Disney might well have had ambitions on saying "You're welcome!" to us all with this realistic interpretation of its recent animated hit. Judging by its terrible 35% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes (RT), though, many will be expecting the House of Mouse to issue a grovelling apology over its creation.

Rosebush Pruning
Release date: out now (worldwide)
Indie studio Mubi continues to try and position itself as the new A24 with its latest film offering Rosebush Pruning. However, based on its abject 25% RT critical rating, it's still go a ways to go to be labeled as such.
Billed as a satirical tragicomedy thriller, Rosebush Pruning stars Callum Turner as Jack, who causes something of a ruckus within his immediate family when he brings him new girlfriend Martha (Elle Fanning). The reason? Jack's family is hiding a dark secret that involves the protagonist himself. You won't find spoilers for what that is here, so I'd advise you to go and see one of July's new movies when it hits a cinema screen near you. You know, if you aren't bothered about the aforementioned RT rating...
The Odyssey
Release date: July 17 (worldwide)
Largely expected to be one of the biggest new movies of 2026, The Odyssey sees film auteur Christopher Nolan step behind the camera for his silver screen adaptation on Homer's ancient Greek epic.
Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the high fantasy action flick will chronicle the Ithican king's years-long journey to return home to his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) following the end of the Trojan War. Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, and Mia Goth are among its A-list ensemble. Expect this one to make an aboslute stack of cash at the worldwide box office.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Release date: July 29 (UK); July 31 (US and Australia)
Just two weeks after his major supporting role in The Odyssey, Tom Holland will throw on his Spider-Man spandex once more for the iconic Marvel hero's fourth solo adventure in the MCU.
Set five years after its forebear, Spider-Man: Brand New Day sees Peter Parker grapple with an increasing sense of isolation as he fully throws himself into his friendly neighborhood persona and attempts to keep New York City safe amid the rapid rise of numerous supervillains. Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, and Mark Ruffalo are part of Spider-Man 4's absolutely stacked cast.
