The Honor 6X could be your next perfect cheap phone

Honor has a brand new phone for those on a budget

Honor’s 5X was one of the best low price phones of 2016, and the newly announced Honor 6X is even better.

The new budget phone, which was revealed at CES 2017, features a full brushed metal unibody, a 5.5-inch Full HD display and a powerful chipset.

Under the hood there's 3GB of RAM, alongside a Huawei produced Kirin 655 chip to power the thing. It’s the first time we’ve seen this system-on-a-chip used in a device, and it works well.

Honor also told TechRadar it may release a 4GB of RAM version of the phone in the future, but there was no official announcement at CES 2017 and there’s no guarantee it will come to the UK, US or Australia.

The dual-camera experimentation of the Honor 8 is also on the Honor 6X, but this time it’s just a 12MP and 2MP combo on the back.

On the front there's a powerful 8MP camera, so you’ll be able to grab selfies that capture your true beauty with ease. Moving back to the rear of the phone there’s also a fingerprint scanner, so you can keep the Honor 6X as secure as possible.

Storage and software

For storage, the Honor 6X comes with 32GB on board, but there's only just over 21GB when you take into account the software installed on the phone. If that’s not enough for you, there’s a microSD slot for cards of up to 128GB.

There’s also a 3340mAh battery to keep the phone charged through the day.

The Honor 6X is running Android 6 software with the Emotion UI 4.1 over the top of it – but Honor has confirmed it will update the phone to Android 7 and Emotion UI 5 by the end of March 2017.

If you live in the UK you’ll be able to buy the Honor 6X from January 4 on the official website, while in the US it's officially launching on January 10. In the UK it costs £229, while in the US it retails for $249.99.

Those in the US will be able to buy the 6X in flash sales every Tuesday on the Honor website between January 10 and January 31 for only $199 though.

Honor currently has no plans to bring the Honor 6X to Australia, but we’ll be sure to update this story if we hear more.
