Are you enjoying spooky season so far? I hope so – but, if you come here looking for more bone-chilling new movies and shows to watch, you're out of luck.
Indeed, our streaming guide for this weekend doesn't feature a single horror-based production. Don't let that put you off from reading on, though, because the world's best streaming services have plenty of exciting new content to offer you, including a new thriller movie, the return of fan-favorite TV series, and a documentary on the late Ozzy Osbourne. The Woman in Cabin 10 (Netflix)
Kiera Knightley looking all mysterious on a cruise ship? Sign me up. Netflix has already made us wary of what happens in the waters thanks to the infamous Trainwreck: Poop Cruise and Amy Bradley is Missing, but it's not done yet.
Based on its book namesake, Knightly plays a journalist who boards a cruise for a work assignment, and inadvertently spots a passenger going overboard. When she confronts the staff the next day, nobody believes her... so who is this unknown person and what's actually happened?
If I was Knightley, I think I'd have got so frustrated with what happens that I'd have had the onboard gift shop in complete disarray. Or maybe eaten everything from the boat's restaurants (all of them, I'm not fussy). – Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter
The Chair Company (HBO Max)
I was a latecomer to Tim Robinson's fantastic Netflix sketch show I Think You Should Leave. And, with the comedian writing, producing, and starring a new HBO Max TV Original – The Chair Company – this weekend, I know which of this article's recommended films and series I'll be *ahem* seated for.
Little has been revealed about this project's plot. Indeed, the only things we know are that Robinson will play William Ronald Trosper and that he'll investigate a far-reaching conspiracy when something embarrassing happens to him at work.
The Chair Company's first trailer only teased the tip of the iceberg for Robinson's latest absurd comedy. If it's half as good as his best I Think... sketches, though, we'll be in for a real treat. – TP
House of David season 2 (Prime Video)
Thanks to new Prime Video add-on Wonder Project, House of David is coming back for more. In a nutshell, this is the epic battle of David versus Goliath committed to screen, but with much more lore, action, and emotion than any of us expected.
In season 2, David (Michael Iskander) is now part of the House of Saul. On his journey to the throne, we see new alliances and rivalries in the most unlikely of places – and, of course, there are brand-new secrets to keep.
If you're looking for content that prioritizes family viewing and faith-based values, you're in the right place. The Amazon TV Original is all the excitement you want without any of the pitfalls, and there are essential lessons to be learned along the way. – JV
The Last Frontier (Apple TV+)
What could be more chilling than being in a sleepy, Alaskan town when a plane transporting dozens of vicious prisoners crash-lands in the nearby wilderness? If it weren't for 90s action romps like Con Air and The Fugitive, I probably wouldn't be imagining such a petrifying situation for The Last Frontier.
Executive producer Jason Clarke stars in this Apple TV Original as lone US marshal Frank Remnick, whose quiet life is turned upside down when he starts to face off against the dangerous inmates. As if the stakes weren't high enough, the Apple TV+ series also takes a mystery turn when FBI agents become involved, suggesting there's more to this accident then there seems.
The Last Frontier's first two episodes are out now (new episodes drop weekly, FYI) and it looks like a violent manhunt with snowy thrills. – Amelia Schwanke, senior entertainment editor
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 2 (Disney+)
It was less than a year ago that I was writing about the return of this beloved Disney Channel show, so time is either speeding up or someone cast a spell on me, because weekly episodes of the second season have been airing on the aforementioned channel since September 12.
For anyone that's missed catching the second installment of this family sitcom, though, Disney+ has conjured up all 10 episodes at once. This time around, Justin (David Henrie) is setting up a Family Wizard Competition among the kids, but things take a turn when Billy (Janice LeAnn Brown) starts to lose her powers.
Fans that grew up with the original show are calling its sequel one of the best Disney+ shows, which suggests this is likely an easy win for your next family night in. – AS
Boots (Netflix)
You may have seen Vera Farmiga in the latest movie in The Conjuring series, but she's also on the small screen where she plays a narcissistic mother in Boots, Netflix's latest comedy-drama.
Farmiga's character is the mother of Cameron Cope, the show's protagonist, who impulsively joins the US Marine Corps boot camp in the 1990s. Cameron is closeted and has to keep that a secret. Indeed, being a gay in the military was still illegal in this era. Cameron is joined by his straight best friend, where the two attempt to navigate this gruelling world together.
With eight 40-minute episodes available this weekend, it's a great binge watch if you're in the mood for a funny and heartfelt coming-of-age story. – Lucy Buglass, senior entertainment writer
Ozzy: No Escape From Now (Paramount+)
Earlier this year, we lost the great Ozzy Osbourne and fans all over the world came together to pay tribute to the rock legend. The Black Sabbath singer is an undisputed icon of the heavy metal genre, and this new Paramount+ documentary is a must-watch for anyone wanting to say a final goodbye.
Ozzy: No Escape From Now looks back at his last six years, including his battle with Parkinson's and his Villa Park farewell gig. Unsurprising, there are plenty of exclusive behind-the-scenes moments and appearances from the rest of the Osbourne family.
The documentary was not intended to be a posthumous release, but now it does serve as a tribute to Ozzy and I'm sure rock fans everywhere will raise a glass and watch it this weekend. I'm definitely going to be joining you. – LB
