Valentine's Day is typically a time for watching romance movies, but there are plenty of horror movies perfect for the occasion. Horror blends really well with romance, as well as many other genres, so I've picked a variety of titles available on the best streaming services.
It's also Friday the 13th, which is a fitting time as any to check out a new horror or revisit ones you've already seen. If you want to go beyond Jason Voorhees, here are five horror movies you won't want to miss this weekend.
Ready or Not
Where: FuboTV (US); Prime Video (AU); Disney+ (UK, AU)
Considering its sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is one of the new movies arriving this April, now is the perfect time to watch the original. I love revisiting Ready or Not as it quickly became one of my favorite horror comedies ever.
The plot centers on a new bride, Grace, who is hunted by her spouse's wealthy family as part of a wedding night ritual to worship the Devil. It's the deadliest game of hide and seek you'll ever see, and of course, Grace fights back with some seriously entertaining results.
Gerald's Game
Where: Netflix (worldwide)
I had to include a Stephen King adaptation on this list, and Gerald's Game certainly fits the bill for a twisted Valentine's Day watch. This novel was adapted for the first time in 2017 and made quite the impression.

The story follows a couple's romantic getaway gone horribly wrong when a woman accidentally kills her husband during foreplay, and she ends up handcuffed alone to a bed while stranded in a remote location. It's brilliantly directed by Mike Flanagan and has a gory scene that makes me cringe every time I see it. It's a must-watch.
Bones and All
Where: Netflix (US); Prime Video (UK, AU)
I'm a huge fan of Luca Guadagnino, and his take on the horror-romance genre should not be missed. Timothee Chalamet once again collaborates with Guadagnino after Call Me Be Your Name, and gives an excellent performance alongside Taylor Russell.
Together, they play a pair of young cannibals who develop feelings for each other on a road trip across the US. Somehow this movie ends up being equal parts touching and disturbing, and it's the kind of story you'll be thinking about for days.
Together
Where: Hulu (US); rent or buy (AU)
Together is a movie that had everyone talking recently, as it tackles codependency in a very disturbing way. When a couple (played by real life partners Alison Brie and Dave Franco) move to the countryside to begin a new life, weird things start happening and they find themselves becoming fused together.
It's scary and darkly funny in places, and there's some scenes here that are guaranteed to make you cringe due to its horrifying concept. Together doesn't have a streaming release in the UK and Australia yet, but you are able to rent or buy it if you wish.
Fresh
Where: Hulu (US); Disney+ (UK, AU)
Finally, Fresh explores the horrors of modern online dating, making it a perfect Valentine's Day pick. Here, Daisy Edgar-Jones plays Noa, who is about to give up after a string of awful dates. Enter Sebastian Stan's Steve, a seemingly charming man and a huge improvement on the dates Noa has been on.
But when Steve invites Noa for a weekend getaway to a surprise destination, things take a turn for the worse when he reveals his true nature and why he's brought her here. Noa ends up in a life-or-death situation, with her expectations for a romantic getaway completely ruined.

Lucy is a long-time movie and television lover who is an approved critic on Rotten Tomatoes. She has written several reviews in her time, starting with a small self-ran blog called Lucy Goes to Hollywood before moving onto bigger websites such as What's on TV and What to Watch, with TechRadar being her most recent venture. Her interests primarily lie within horror and thriller, loving nothing more than a chilling story that keeps her thinking moments after the credits have rolled. Many of these creepy tales can be found on the streaming services she covers regularly.
When she’s not scaring herself half to death with the various shows and movies she watches, she likes to unwind by playing video games on Easy Mode and has no shame in admitting she’s terrible at them. She also quotes The Simpsons religiously and has a Blinky the Fish tattoo, solidifying her position as a complete nerd.
