Singapore Black Friday 2023: key information
When will Black Friday 2023 sales start in Singapore?
Black Friday lands on the Friday directly after the US holiday Thanksgiving, which takes place on the fourth Thursday of November each year. The official Black Friday date falls on November 24 in 2023, though we’re likely to start seeing deals popping up from the end of October. Things will really kick off in Singapore from mid November with the 11.11 Singles Day sales, and as we enter the week of the actual sale, it’ll be hard to avoid any Black Friday offers.
Where to find the best Black Friday deals
While we won’t know for sure where the best deals for Black Friday 2023 will land, we can look at what retailers offered in previous years for an idea of what to expect this November.
Amazon SG: Lightning deals and regular price matching across all departments
Apple SG: the direct source for Apple products
Dell SG: laptops and PC peripherals for professionals and gamers alike
Lazada SG: a great option for big brands with additional coupons and flash sales
Lenovo SG: another great option for laptops, including ones built for gaming
Microsoft SG: discounts on Surface Laptops, often with bonus accessories
Robinsons SG: TCL TVs, PC peripherals and headphones regularly get discounts here
Samsung SG: a great option for appliances, Galaxy phones, smartwatches and more
Shopee SG: coupon stacking and flash sales on appliances, consoles and more
Are Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales held in Singapore?
What initially started as an American tradition has spread globally, and over the last six years, Black Friday has only grown more popular in Singapore. A variety of major retailers jump in to offer deals, with Amazon, Lazada, Harvey Norman, Microsoft and many more jumping in to offer bargains across the entire month of November, including the actual Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend.
Singapore Black Friday 2023: our predictions
There’s been a few sales in Singapore this year that can give us a glimpse into what we might find during 2023’s Black Friday. Chinese New Year, Amazon Prime Day and even the matching-date shopping events such as 9.9 sales are a good indicator of which retailers will offer discounts and what products to keep an eye on.
While Singaporeans are facing some economic pressures, shoppers are still turning out to snatch deals on small appliances, TVs, consoles, laptops and more throughout 2023.
Coming into Black Friday, we expect to see further discounts on TVs from brands such as LG, TCL and Samsung. Across the year we’ve seen even the newest models score a discount, with the 2023 LG B3 OLED TV appearing in both the Amazon Prime Day and 9.9 sales. This bears good news for those holding out for Black Friday TV discounts, as it looks like we could see even more bargains on 2023 models in November.
Consoles have been a bit of a different story – in 2022 we saw the Nintendo Switch OLED drop to its lowest price during Black Friday, only since being beaten with a deal from Shopee during the 9.9 sales. However, across the board, consoles haven’t been picking up as many discounts as they did during 2022. This could be because retailers are saving the big deals on the PS5 or Xbox Series X for Black Friday, or due to stock levels balancing out, reducing the demand from shoppers as the products are much easier to find in 2023.
With newer processors for laptops, we’re expecting some older models to get a price reduction, but the demand for laptops hasn’t been as big as it was during the height of the pandemic. We still expect to see devices with 12th-gen Intel CPUs and earlier models come down in price from Microsoft, Dell and Lenovo, as well as older MacBooks from Apple, though it’s unlikely anything released in 2023 will get the Black Friday treatment.
As for audio, Black Friday in 2023 could be a fantastic time to pick up the best earbuds out there. Now that the Sony WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds have been released, we’re hoping to see deals on the WF-1000XM4s or even the XM3s if any sellers still have stock. Plus, we saw soundbars from Bose and Samsung score large discounts in 2022 and across the earlier 2023 sales, so this Black Friday might be a good chance to upgrade your home theatre system without buying a whole new TV.
Throughout the year brands such as Dyson, Ecovacs, Tineco and Roborock have all offered discounts across cordless vacuums, steam floor cleaners and robot vacuums, both through marketplaces such as Shopee or Lazada and directly from the source. It’s highly likely some of these deals will be beaten during Black Friday.
Black Friday vs Amazon Prime Day: Which is better?
Amazon Prime Day is an Amazon-exclusive sale, so while you might find some retailers matching deals, they’re not officially part of that sale. It’s also typically full of Prime member-exclusive deals. Black Friday, on the other hand, is a major shopping event where any and all retailers can jump in, including Amazon. The deals from Amazon SG also won’t all be locked behind a Prime membership, though Prime members might find some extra savings on hot ticket items.
Black Friday is typically the biggest shopping event of the year, but for the best deals on Amazon-branded devices such as Kindle ereaders or Echo smart speakers, Amazon Prime Day generally has the best offerings.
Singapore Black Friday 2023: last year’s best deals
Google Pixel 6a |
SG$699 SG$446 at Amazon SG (SG$235 off)
we noted in our Google Pixel 6a review that while it might have been Google’s budget handset offering back in 2022, it still came in a stylish, compact design and with a camera and quality editing software we’ve come to expect from the Pixel range. In 2023, the Pixel 7a is here, so the Pixel 6a is likely to go on sale during the next Black Friday sale as well, but you could also find the 7a at a discounted price.
Nintendo Switch OLED |
SG$549 SG$399 at Amazon SG (SG$150 off)
In 2022’s Black Friday sales, the Nintendo Switch OLED hit its lowest price at the time. In 2023, we saw it drop even further, hitting SG$388 during the 9.9 sales, so we’re expecting to see this versatile console once again break its previous lowest price record this November. There’s rumours about a Nintendo Switch 2 swirling about as well, though we are unlikely to see it any time soon, but they could still have a further impact on the console's price during Black Friday.
LG C2 OLED TV (45-inch) |
SG$2,549 $1,999 from Lazada SG (SG$550 off)
The LG C2 OLED TV managed to score some discounts last year despite having only been released in 2022, and it was a nice surprise given that our LG C2 OLED review gave this TV a standout 5-star rating. Similarly, we’ve seen some of LG’s 2023 OLED TVs pick up discounts during Amazon Prime Day as well, though the C3 has yet to score any significant savings. Could sellers be holding out for Black Friday? We think so based on this 2022 deal.
Dell Inspiron 16 laptop | i5 / 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD |
SG$1,299 SG$1,049 from Dell SG (SG$250 off)
In 2022, the 12th-gen Intel Core chips were the latest on the market, so finding deals on any laptop packing one were few and far between. This Dell Inspiron 16 laptop picked up a modest SG$250 discount, and now that the 13th-gen is here, we’re expecting to see even bigger price drops on the laptops like this one.
MacBook Pro (2022, 13-inch) | M2 / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD |
SG$1,879 SG$1,699 at Amazon (SG$180 off)
Since Black Friday last year, Apple has released a MacBook Pro packing in the M2 Pro chip, giving its premium line of MacBooks even more power. With this in mind, the 2022 model could score a decent saving during 2023’s Black Friday sales, though probably not directly from Apple itself. Keep an eye on Amazon SG and Lazada SG for a deal on the 2022 MacBook Pro – we’ve got our fingers crossed that it’ll pick up a bigger discount than the 10% it scored last year. We even called it the most affordable MacBook Pro in our MacBook Pro 2022 review, so a discount will make it all the more worthwhile.
Sony WF-1000XM4 |
SG$379 SG$238 at Amazon SG (SG$141 off)
We couldn’t help giving a full 5 stars in our Sony WF-1000XM4 review, we get really excited when we find a deal on the Sony WF-1000XM4s. This discount was a standout in 2022, knocking off a solid SG$141 from its regular price. While we still consider the XM4s the best true wireless earbuds, Sony has since released a new set of true wireless earbuds, and you can read our Sony WF-1000XM5 review to see how the two compare, but we’re expecting to see an even bigger saving on the older buds come this Black Friday.
Lego Super Mario the Mighty Bowser (71411) |
SG$399.90 SG$297.75 at Amazon SG (SG$102.24 off)
Now that we’ve seen the Mighty Bowser on the big screen in the Super Mario Bros. movie, this Lego set is even more impressive. It might not sing like Jack Black, but the Lego Koopa King does feature fireball launchers and a poseable build. It nabbed a big discount at the height of Black Friday in 2022, coming down to SG$297.75, and since then it has periodically picked up even more savings, so it's one to keep an eye on if you’re a keen Lego collector.
