Averatec is a brand new company in the UK, but it has been operating in the United States since 2002. Averatec's parent company is Tri-Gem, currently the third largest manufacturer of computer hardware in the world. With such a pedigree behind the company, we are expecting great things from this brand.

The Averatec 6240 (£799 inc. VAT) has a 15.4-inch TFT panel sports a native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The screen of our test unit was crisp and clear with no signs of dead or blown pixels.

The Averatec 6240 is certainly an interesting concept. The addition of a DVD player does more than add novelty value to the system, as it is usable. The core specification of this system, except for the graphics, impressed us. Alex Bentley & Michael Brown
