  • Caviar offers an iPhone with a piece of Steve Jobs' turtleneck
  • Only nine of these limited edition models are going to be made
  • The launch is part of Apple's ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations

Pick up one of the best iPhones, and you're guaranteed to get snappy performance, excellent cameras, and a polished design — but there's a new model on the market that adds a rather special extra.

Caviar, well known for making luxury custom iPhones, now offers an iPhone 17 Pro with a piece of Steve Jobs' turtleneck jumper embedded in the casing (via Notebookcheck). It's something for the Apple fan who wants to stand out — and who has deep pockets.

The phone is being launched in honor of Apple's 50th birthday as a company, a celebration TechRadar is also getting involved in: see our guides to the best Apple gadgets ever (as voted for by you) and our big Apple 50th anniversary quiz.

Jobs famously used to wear a black turtleneck jumper on stage across several major Apple product unveilings, and the fabric that Caviar has apparently got hold of comes from the launch of one of the NeXT computers — and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

'Elevates the smartphone'

"This detail elevates the smartphone into a museum-worthy collector's piece, where Apple's technological legacy meets a tangible trace of the man who shaped its destiny," explains Caviar in the listing for the new phone.

A tiny turtleneck patch can be seen in the Apple logo on the phone's design. The aesthetics of the handset will also be modded in a way "inspired by the iPhone 2G", with contrasting blocks of black and silver and custom engraving.

Underneath though, this is all iPhone 17 Pro (or Pro Max): an Apple A19 Pro chip, 12GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. You can pick your configuration on the Caviar site, and add extras such as personal engraving and your own unique packaging.

And the price? It starts at $9,630 (about £7,275 / AU$14,045), for the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro version. There are apparently only going to be nine of these made worldwide, so if it appeals, you might want to put in a reservation sooner rather than later.
