  • More details about future iPhones have leaked out
  • The foldable iPhone could sport an under-display camera without Face ID
  • It looks as though Apple is planning an iPhone Air 2

If the rumors are to be believed, Apple is planning a pretty major shake-up for its iPhones over the next couple of years, led by the folding iPhone – and a new report sheds some light on that device, as well as a potential iPhone Air 2.

This comes from a report by analysts JP Morgan (via @MaxWinebach), based on supply chain information. These analyst reports aren't official confirmation of anything, but they're put together using sources inside the industry that are usually reliable.

First up, the foldable iPhone: it is apparently coming in the second half of 2026, without Face ID, but with an under-display 24MP selfie camera. There's also a second 24MP selfie camera listed – presumably for the outer cover screen.

For the rest of the camera specs, it looks as though we're getting a dual-lens 48MP+48MP setup, with an ultrawide sensor but no telephoto lens. That's relatively basic for an iPhone, but to be expected given how thin the folding iPhone will have to be.

Something in the Air

As for the successor to the iPhone Air, this analyst report suggests there will indeed be an iPhone Air 2 in 2026, as well as an iPhone Air 3 in 2027. Apple is apparently showing plenty of faith in its new super-slim phone.

There has been chatter within the industry that iPhone Air sales have been sluggish – just like sales of the iPhone 16 Plus that it replaced in the lineup – but it would seem that Apple hasn't been put off by this, and won't be canceling the model.

If this report is to be believed, the phone will be keeping the same single-lens 48MP rear camera in the second and third generation – further evidence of how the slim dimensions limit what Apple is able to do within the handset.

Finally, the report indicates that Apple will indeed stagger the launch of the iPhone 18 handsets, as previously rumored: it looks as though the iPhone 18 will get pushed to 2027 with the iPhone 18e, while the other iPhone 18 models launch in September 2026 as usual.
