If there's one thing ever football fan knows, it's never to write off the Germans. The three-time champions have been in a years-long funk but exploded out of the blocks with a Jamal Musiala-inspired 5-1 thumping of Scotland that was as comprehensive as it gets. With home advantage, an elite coach and a top-tier squad, they've got to be counted amongst favourites now.

That tag was worn by England, France, Spain and Portugal ahead of the tournament, and although reigning champions Italy had to scrape through qualification, they weren't much fancied at the last Euros either and look how that turned out.

Early evidence suggests that what the Italians lack in pizzazz, they make up for with savvy, and that this may have been a tournament too far for Luka Modric's Croatia team.

Can you watch Euro 2024 in 4K HDR?

Sadly, Euro 2024 will not be broadcast in 4K UHD. Nor will the Champions League final, for that matter. Both events will air in 1080p HDR instead.

That's an unfortunate downgrade on where things have been headed with sport shot and broadcast in high resolution. This has been put this down to a lack of interest in 4K broadcasts and the more technically challenging set-up required.
