As is typical of Canon printers, the new MX320 is stylish and highly intuitive. Considering it's half the price of some its competitors, it offers a lot, combining plenty of features with a good speed.

The standalone fax comes with a 30-sheet document feeder and voice/fax priority options for when the machine is sharing the line with a phone.

For photocopying and scanning, the 1,200 x 2,400dpi is exceptionally accurate in terms of sharpness, colour rendition, brightness and contrast.

Mono and colour print quality is extremely good, with crisp, sharp text delivered by the pigment-based black ink, and good colour accuracy supplied by the tricolour cartridge. For a four-ink printer, photo print quality is also surprisingly good.

Our only real criticism is the high ink costs, with prints costing 2.5p to 3p more per page than competitors.

It's also a shame that there's no Wi-Fi, but on balance this is a highly competent package.
