A full digital painting studio, created by artists for artists

Krita

The holidays are an expensive time, so we’re bringing you a special treat: a full, free, fun Windows program to download every day until Christmas.

Behind door number nine on our advent calendar you'll find Krita – a professional-quality painting program created by a team of artists to make top-notch creative tools within reach of everyone.

Krita's interface is designed to be unobtrusive, and each element can be dragged and dropped to suit your preferences. There's a huge selection of brushes to choose from, with an optional stabilization function to avoid wobbles if your hand isn't totally steady.

Each brush is also totally customizable, and you can save your bespoke brushes to use again later.

Right-clicking anywhere on the canvas in Krita will bring up a selection wheel that lets you pick a new tool and select a colour in seconds - much easier than trawling through menus and settings

Professional painting

Krita was created by artists, and it shows in the dozens of thoughtful little touches that make it easier to create great paintings.

There are handy drawing aids for creating straight lines, vanishing points and smooth shapes.

There's also support for layers and masks, various transform tools, HDR support, and advanced selection functions. It's an incredibly powerful program, and it's yours to download and use completely free.
