Amazon drops new Kindle deals ahead of Prime Day — but should you buy now or wait?
Today's prices are good, but they could be even lower soon
A few Kindle deals have dropped at Amazon this week, so whether you're eyeing a gift for Mother's Day or want a new ereader for yourself, it could be tempting to take advantage of the offers while you can. But hold on for a second. There could be a good reason to wait if you're not in a rush to buy today.

Now, first up, these Kindle deals aren't exactly bad. The Kindle Paperwhite is down to $134.99 (was $159.99), while the newer Kindle Colorsoft has dropped to $189.99 (was $249.99). Those are good prices for both ereaders outside of a major sale. (Not in the US? Scroll down to see today's best Kindle deals where you are.)
But, there is one big thing to consider: Prime Day. Amazon's yearly members-only sale usually takes place around early July, and that's when we regularly see the lowest prices for the majority of the retailer's own-brand devices — including Kindles.
Last year, for example, the Kindle Paperwhite was down to $124.99 for Prime Day. That may only be $10 cheaper than today's price, but if you're already signed up for Amazon Prime, then you'll want to take advantage of the best offers.
Whatever you decide to do, know that with the Paperwhite and Colorsoft, you're getting one of the best ereaders available, according to our testing. While the Kobo is a worthy rival, these mid-range devices are excellent picks for most readers.

This is a solid offer on the latest Kindle Paperwhite for non-Prime members — or if you'd rather not wait a couple of months until Prime Day. We found in our Kindle Paperwhite review that it's packed with features to suit all avid readers, including a 12-week battery life, glare-free 7-inch screen, adjustable warm light, and storage space for thousands of books. Altogether, it's one of the best and most affordable ereaders out there.
The Kindle Colorsoft has been $20 cheaper than this, but it's still a solid offer for Amazon's first and only colored Kindle. This is the one to go for if you love reading travel guides, graphic novels, and other genres with a lot of images and photographs — or just want to see your library in all its vibrant glory. There's a clear 7-inch glare-free color display, USB-C charging compatibility, and a battery that lasts up to eight weeks.
