Look alive, Prime Video subscribers: the time has come to stream an exceptionally good new crime drama in the form of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. If you think you've heard the name before, you have, as the new TV series is a prequel for the original The Terminal List, following the same character of Ben Edwards (played by Taylor Kitsch).
As you might expect from the original series, the prequel follows Edwards' journey from the Navy SEALs into the CIA (which is where we've already seen him before) – and out of everything new on Prime Video in August through to September, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf might just be the most exciting.
We've only seen three episode so far (Amazon is airing the remaining four episodes on a weekly basis until September 27), and if the prequel plays its cards right, I can see it having the same success as Bosch: Legacy spinoff Ballard. In fact, I already want a second season of Ben Edwards' time in the SEALs.
Why I recommend streaming Prime Video's The Terminal List: Dark Wolf immediately
For starters, Kitsch absolutely kitsches butt in this role (see what I did there?). It's abundantly clear that he knows Edwards inside out, and that allows for his storyline to be as dramatic and intense as possible. We follow Edwards during his years deployed in Afghanistan, and that comes with all the gritty realism and heart-stopping action that you might expect.
If anything, I'd go as far as to say The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is better than the original. If you've missed characters from the original series, there's a high chance that your favorites are now being references in a bigger and better way. While it never shies away from the ugly realities of war, the prequel is also a touch lighter than what we've seen before, meaning more heart and vulnerability is allowed to creep in without us even realizing it.
That said, we've not really got under Edwards' skin yet, and that's likely on purpose. As the episodes continue, we'll probably get closer to finding out who's really underneath the tough action exterior, and given the basic plot of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf airs on the predictable side, it's this kind of twist that keeps what we're seeing fresh.
Make no mistake, though – this is an incredibly well executed action series. There's clearly a lot of nuance, perspective and backstory to dig into here, and I'm under no illusions that we're only just beginning to scratch the surface.
