I have a new favorite VR headset and it's all thanks to Black Friday
Move over Meta Quest 3, it's the Quest 3S' time to shine
I firmly believe the Meta Quest 3, despite being a pricier product, is generally a better VR headset for most people compared to the more affordable Meta Quest 3S, thanks to its superior display setup. But this year’s best Black Friday deals for the headsets are proving me wrong.

When it comes to the Meta Quest 3S, it has some much better discounts on offer. It’s down to $249 at Walmart in the US (saving you $50) – with your purchase also netting you a free copy of Batman: Arkham Shadow one of the best VR games ever made – while in the UK the Meta Quest 3S was down to £219 (was £289.99) thanks to a voucher (the deal isn't currently live but could return), or you can get the headset for £229 at John Lewis and get a free breathable interface with your purchase if you use code FREEQUESTINTERFACE.
Meanwhile, the Meta Quest 3 deals are few and far between – no notable US retailers are offering a discount at the time of writing, while in the UK your best bet is this £25 saving at Argos (making the Quest 3 £444.99).
With prices this low – especially in the UK – the Meta Quest 3S is frankly too good to turn down. It’s such an enticing proposition, I’m willing to concede that, for now, the Meta Quest 3S is the best value for money VR headset you can find, and it’s impossible to consider anything else.

Today's best Meta Quest 3S Black Friday deals
This Meta Quest 3S deal can also be found at Amazon and Target, and it’s no better than discounts we’ve seen before. I’m not saying it’ll get any better, but if I were you, I’d bookmark this deal and check back every few days as we inch closer to Black Friday proper. It’s unlikely to sell out before the big day itself, and you might get lucky and snag a better discount as a reward for your patience.
This is the best Meta Quest 3S deal I’ve ever seen. If it wasn’t coming from Amazon, I’d say it’s simply too good to be true and probably a scam. If Amazon’s deal sells out (I wouldn’t be surprised if it does), then you can get the headset for £229 at John Lewis, which sounds like your next best Meta Quest 3S bet – just remember to also use code FREEQUESTINTERFACE for a free breathable facial interface.
I’ve been covering VR tech deals for years and have seen great deals like those Amazon and John Lewis discounts in the UK sell out, so if it were me, I’d consider acting sooner rather than later.
The US deals aren’t yet as stellar, but that’s fine. My advice here is instead that you should hold fire on picking up the headset until closer to Black Friday in the hope that something much better materializes.
How about the Meta Quest 3? Well, usually I’d say this is the world’s best VR headset for most people, but right now I’m leaning towards the Meta Quest 3S being the one to watch.
Why?
Both VR headsets boast the same core specs, meaning they share the same chipset and RAM, which means they both can play top-tier games and exclusives like Batman: Arkham Shadow and Marvel’s Deadpool VR.
However, the Quest 3 usually edges things out for me because of its higher-quality displays. Not only are they slightly sharper with a higher resolution, but the headset is also outfitted with pancake lenses, which not only slim down the machine but also wipe out the blurriness at the fringes, which can appear in the Quest 3S's fresnel lenses.
If you’re planning to use your headset a lot, then this blurriness can be frustrating – especially when you know there’s a better option out there that’s not too much more money.
Thanks to Black Friday, it’s much easier to promote the Quest 3S because, while it’s still not quite as impressive hardware-wise, when it’s just so phenomenally cheap with a deal, you can very easily overlook the downgrades.
