  • Ring is rolling out a new feature to help prevent duplicate notifications
  • AI Single Alert ensures you're only notified about a particular event once
  • It's available for all existing Ring doorbells and security cameras

Ever been annoyed by excessive notifications from your video doorbell or home security camera? Ring has just launched a solution that uses AI to condense related alerts together so you only receive a single message when an event takes place.

Back in June, Ring launched Ring Video Descriptions, which use AI to identify what triggered your doorbell or camera, and describe it using text so you can see what's happening at a glance. If you know what's going on, and were expecting it, you can dismiss the notification without having to watch the recording.

These notifications are fine for something brief like a person arriving at the door, or someone loitering by a window, but it's not ideal for situations like your kids playing in the garden or a gardener trimming a hedge, which could trigger your camera multiple times.

AI Single Alert takes things a step further by analysing Video Descriptions that are generated, and grouping together ones that are very similar so you're not disturbed unnecessarily.

Knock, knock...

AI Single Alert should work much better than Apple Intelligence summaries, which used to interpret multiple alerts from the Ring app as meaning there were multiple people waiting at the front door.

"When I first installed the beta, maintenance was working on my apartment for a few hours going in and out, I gasped when I looked at my phone near the end of the day and it said '47 people are at your front door,'" wrote one Reddit user. soon after Apple Intelligence Summaries rolled out.

AI Single Alert is compatible with all existing Ring doorbells and cameras. It rolled out in the US last month, and is now available to Ring Premium subscribers in the UK.
