Eyeing up the new Apple MacBook Neo? Before you lay down some cash for a preorder, take note that Apple has an amazing discount that's often overlooked by the vast majority of people.
It's the Apple Education store's exclusive discount for students, parents, and teachers, which right now knocks $100 / £100 off the price of this already-cheap model.
With this discount, you can get the MacBook Neo for $499 in the US or £499 in the UK. That's easily the lowest price I've ever seen for a brand-new MacBook, and the perfect deal for thrifty students who don't want to spring for one of Apple's higher-end machines.
As a brief overview, the new MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, a durable aluminum chassis, and the latest MacOS. How has Apple made it so cheap? Well, it features the A18 Pro chipset that's commonly found on iPads and iPhones. It also only features 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Nonetheless, these specs will suffice for many, and we already think the Neo is shaping up to be one of 2026's most important releases.

How does the Apple education discount work?
It depends on your region, but if you're currently enrolled in a high school or post-secondary institution (eg, college or university) and can provide proof, such as a student ID or other documentation, you should be eligible for education discounts. In many cases, parents can also apply these discounts when purchasing on behalf of their children.
In the United States, Apple typically doesn’t require verification of your education status during checkout. However, your Apple ID is limited to purchasing two discounted models per year through the education store, which prevents bulk buying. In the United Kingdom, you’ll usually need to confirm your eligibility during checkout through the student verification service UNiDAYS.
