LG makes so many cool and popular devices so you’d be forgiven for not instantly associating the brand with laptops. But, perhaps you should? LG’s gram laptops have been around for years, and in that time, they’ve become notable for having particularly large screens on chassis that are remarkably slim and lightweight.

The latest generation uses Intel’s latest Core Ultra (Series 3) “Panther Lake” processors meaning that they offer more performance, portability and AI enhanced capabilities compared with previous models. Some configurations also offer stronger casual-gaming potential than earlier models.

So, whether you're new to, or familiar with, LG gram laptops, check out what makes the new generation even more special and maybe your next laptop will be one of the market’s few 17-inch ultraportables.

A 17‑inch laptop naturally lends itself to productivity, but this size has traditionally been associated with heavier gaming machines rather than ultraportables that’s lighter than some 14-inch rivals. It weighs just 1.379KG and is only 13.3mm thick. It’s not flimsy or weak and it’s passed multiple tests within the tough, military-grade MIL-STD-810H certification. These include drop tests and checks for temperature extremes, vibrations and dust proofing.

Despite the chassis size, it squeezes in a large, 77Wh battery which provides up to 27 hours of battery life. If you can fit it in your bag, you’ll barely know it’s there.

The 17‑inch display features high 2560 x 1600 resolution, meaning there’s plenty of Desktop real-estate to use for office work or to consume or edit multimedia (there’s even a variant with a touchscreen). Multi-media is augmented with special 360-degree Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers Offering a more spacious and immersive listening experience.

The large chassis means there’s also a large, full-size keyboard with a full number pad. The trackpad supports multi-gesture touch.

Connectivity is a blend of useful legacy ports and those that are more cutting edge: there are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. Inside there’s Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

It’s available in multiple SKUs which provide different amounts of storage and RAM to suit different performance/budget requirements. They are:

What makes the Pro, Pro?

Both the 16-inch and the 17-inch LG gram Pros stand-out for their thin, light weight and durable designs,, but there’s a significant amount of technology beneath the surface, and much of that is bespoke to LG.

At the core is Intel latest Core Ultra (Series 3) processor. This provides enough grunt for professionals to perform tasks like 3D design and media-editing work, or even play or design games. It includes advanced AI capabilities, with its neural processor (NPU) and GPU combining to execute up to 89 TOPS. That opens the door to all of Microsoft’s on-device CoPilot+ AI PC features.

The gram Pro supports LG’s Dual AI technology which seeks to deliver a seamless AI experience across both online and offline environments. It’s powered by LG’s own AI platform (called EXAONE 3.5) and manifests as an AI virtual assistant called gram chat which can operate both locally and online. It can provide answers based-upon your own, archived files1, recall recent screens using simple keywords2, summarise text and documents and set system options with simple commands3. It can also instantly connect to gram Link to transfer files or make calls for you. It generally makes everyday tasks easier.

LG’s gram Link technology further enables cross-device connectivity, effortlessly connecting your laptop to other peripherals and mobile devices that run on Apple, Android and LG’s own webOS, meaning you don’t have to worry about operating system compatibility. It facilitates file sharing across multiple devices; provides the ability to control other devices and their screens; it can organise, search-for and locate your photos; and sound cross-device alerts when appropriate.

LG also bundles its ThinQ, multi-device security technology. This lets you remotely lock your LG gram and completely erase all the data to a forensic degree in case it gets lost or stolen. It also protects your most critical information and data when in your possession.

Whether you’re familiar with LG gram laptops or exploring them for the first time, the latest generation of large-screen AI- enables models offer a compelling mix of portability and modern capability.
