Updated: some updated spec information has just hit the net, including details of a RAM upgrade and processor speed.
After announcing the new iPhone 3GS (don't forget, that S stands for speed) the amount of changes, albeit mostly minor were mind boggling, so here they are laid out for all to see simply.
After weeks of speculation, the new phone is packing some serious heat, with an upgraded 3MP camera with autofocus and auto-exposure, video camera with editing, longer battery life, faster processor and voice control too.
Users will be able to get 9 hours of internet over Wi-Fi, 10 hours of video, 30 hours of audio and 12 / five hours of talk over 2G and 3G respectively with the new iPhone 3GS.
The new 3MP camera (same as the Palm Pre) also gives you the option to tap to focus in a similar fashion to many of the HTC range, with low light sensitivity also improved and auto macro allowing you to take pictures up to 10cm away.
Faster internet
It also supports faster 3.5G connection, up to 7.2mbps HSDPA thanks to improved internal components (and a glossy back still, although it has fingerprint resistant coating. We wanted iChat, but we'll take what we can get).
Video is available at 30fps VGA, as well as auto white balance, auto exposure and auto focus too. Automatic is the name of the game here, with video editing (ie trimming video with your finger also an option).
The expected storage upgrades were also in attendance, with the iPhone 3GS picking up a 32GB of memory for increased media and file saving on board. The 'normal' 16GB variant was also shown off too, with the iPhone 3G 8GB version staying at $99.
The faster processor is being kept under wraps at the moment, and we've been hearing it will be coming from all kinds of manufacturers, so we'll be digging out that info as and when we get it.
However, it does mean that the phone can launch messages 2.1 times faster and view an Excel attachment 3.6 times faster, as well as speeding up games and web pages.
Apple has also (finally) added voice control, so you can chat to your friends without having to scroll to their name. You know, the same way phones could do over five years ago.
However, you can also choose song titles to play using the iPod feature as well, including asking "what's playing now" and getting the answer.
Digital compass
As expected there's also a digital compass on board, with links right into Google Maps to work out the way you're facing.
There's support for Nike+ as well, which we assume will come with the shoe pellet to connect via Bluetooth so the phone can know where you are, through we don't know if it will use GPS as well.
It will be coming to the UK exclusively to O2 on 19 June, although there's currently no word on how or when you'll be able to upgrade, nor price, although in the US it will cost $199 (£125) for the 16GB version, and $299 (£190) for the 32GB version, with white and black colour variations available.
