HTC's new Hero has been picked up and rebadged by T-Mobile as the G1 Touch, meaning it now sits snugly in the product portfolio next to the original Android G1. We managed to have a good look at the new Android interface and improved hardware specs to see if Google phones can finally match the might of the iPhone 3GS.
The first thing to note about the G1 Touch is the fact it seems to be a lovechild of the G1 and the Magic, HTC's other Android phones. It's a little thicker than the Magic, at 14.3mm depth, but with a larger chassis comes greater hardware.

We're seeing a 3.5mm jack, a 5MP camera, improved touchscreen accuracy and recognition, although no QWERTY keyboard version as we were hoping.

And not only is there a hardware overhaul, but also Android has been sent to Fat Camp and come back miles trimmer and stronger, with the HTC Sense makeover stripping out the features a phone company thinks you should have and instead giving you an 'empty vessel' to customise as you see fit.
