Jack Whitehall ditches British comedy for dark psychological thrills in this new Prime Video show
He's in a show called Malice, ooh ooh-ooh yeah
I'm a big fan of shows where nasty characters weasel their way into people's lives to do terrible damage, and that makes the new Prime Video revenge thriller Malice a must-watch for me.
The show stars Jack Whitehall as Adam, a charismatic tutor who charms his way into the lives of the wealthy Tanner family during their holiday in Greece.
The Tanners, played by X-Files legend David Duchovny and Game of Thrones' Carice Van Houten, think Jack's just great – but then a run of disasters makes them realize that perhaps he isn't the nice guy he's been pretending to be. But have they discovered Jack's true nature too late?
Where I live (in the UK), Whitehall is best known for his stand-up comedy, panel shows and affable documentaries – but he's been acting professionally since the age of nine. He's a charismatic chap, and that makes me think he's going to be convincing as the scheming Jack: we need to believe that Jack's charm can win over Duchovny's patriarch as he sets about trying to destroy the Tanners' lives.
What else do we know so far about the new Prime Video show Malice?
In addition to Whitehall, Duchovny and van Houten, Malice also stars:
- Harry Gilby (Tolkien), Teddie Allen (Swallows And Amazons), and Phoenix Laroche (Trying) as their three children
- Christine Adams (Hijack) as Nat’s best friend Jules
- Raza Jaffrey (Homeland) as Jules’ husband Damien
- and newcomers Rianna Kellman and Jade Khan as Jules and Damien’s daughters
You will be amazed to discover that Whitehall had an "incredible" time filming, that the shoot was an "amazing experience" and that the people he worked with are "insanely talented". But that's probably true, because Malice is penned by the BAFTA award-winning screenwriter James Wood. Wood's CV includes Rev, which he created, as well as Ambassadors and Decline & Fall.
According to Tara Erer, Head of Originals for UK and Northern Europe, Amazon MGM Studios, “it’s been an absolute joy seeing James Wood’s scripts come to life with our incredible cast led by Jack, David, and Carice. The twists and turns will have our customers on the edge of their seats!”
