Forget Ring doorbells this Black Friday – grab a half-price alternative with no subscription necessary
If you're looking for a Black Friday deal on a video doorbell, you'll probably be tempted to check out the offers from Ring and Blink first – but not so fast! Although both companies produce excellent doorbells, you'll only get limited functionality unless you also sign up for a monthly or annual subscription plan. Suddenly, that cheap hardware doesn't look like such great value.
Thankfully, there are lots of great subscription-free alternatives available, which store your video clips locally on an SD card rather than relying on paid-for cloud storage, and even bundle in features like person-detection and generative AI responses with no added fees.
In the US, one of my personal favorites is the Eufy Video Doorbell Dual for $89.99 at Amazon (was $149.99). This doorbell saves video clips to an internal SD card so you can watch them later, and has two separate cameras so you can see visitors and packages clearly. In the UK, the Eufy Video Doorbell Dual is only £74.99 at Amazon (was £159.99) – an epic Black Friday saving of 50%. Read on for more of my recommended video doorbells that you can install safely with the knowledge that you won't be stung by any sneaky fees.

This is a more basic version of the Video Doorbell Dual below, with one camera rather than two, but it's also more affordable if you're on a tight budget. For a one-off payment of £59.99, you'll get 2K recording, local video storage (you just need a microSD card), and real-time calls on your phone. It can be connected to existing doorbell wiring or run from its own quick-release battery.

This model from Eufy earned a place in my roundup of the best video doorbells, and it's a spectacular value with $60 off for Black Friday. Its specs are similar to the C31 above, but it has an extra camera at the bottom that's angled to give you a clear view of packages on your doorstep. It worked brilliantly during our tests and will help keep the rest of your Black Friday deliveries safe.

This doorbell and chime bundle is equipped with Swann's built-in AI assistant, which can talk to visitors on your behalf and stores your videos on a microSD card. It records in HD, but if you want crisper footage, you'll need the Swann Buddy4K below.

The Swann Buddy4K is another model that's currently sitting in my ultimate guide to the best video doorbells. It's pricier than the other models here, but offers super sharp 4K footage (saved locally), and a free AI voice assistant built-in – no subscription plan necessary.

Another great Eufy doorbell selling for half price this Black Friday, the C1 only has a single camera compared to the Dual's two, but it still boasts 2K video resolution and comes complete with a plug-in chime so you can hear it anywhere in the house – even when you don't have your phone to hand. Videos are stored on a MicroSD card in the doorbell.

Swann also does an excellent line of subscription-free doorbells, and this one has received a generous £25 price cut for Black Friday. Like the Eufy C1, it comes with its own plug-in chime, and saves your videos to an internal SD card rather than the cloud, so there are no extra fees to worry about.

This superb video doorbell is half price in the Black Friday sale at Amazon, and it's a brilliant alternative to a similar model from Ring. It stores sharp 2K footage internally, so you don't need to pay a monthly fee for cloud storage, and its twin cameras mean you can see visitors easily, plus any packages they leave on your doorstep.

Doro makes tech with senior users in mind, but the Hemma is a great video doorbell for anyone who just wants to see who's calling on their phone, and it's interested in smart home integration. There's no subscription available at all, and it's got a generous £50 price cut for Black Friday.

Swann is one of the biggest names in home surveillance, and this smart doorbell demonstrates why. When we tested it, we loved its crisp 4K footage (sharper than any other doorbell here), on-board storage, and the AI assistant included for no extra charge, which provides generative replies to visitors. You can even choose its tone of voice!
You can use a Ring video doorbell without paying for a Ring Home subscription, but you'll only get basic functions. Most significantly, although you can see live video from the doorbell when someone calls, you won't be able to watch clips of callers you missed unless you subscribe to Ring Home.
See our guide to Ring subscriptions for more details of the different Ring Home tiers, their features, and how much they cost.
