We made it through 2025, and it's been a year packed with compelling dramas and action movies across the best streaming services. Now that we're coming up to the new year, there are a lot of exciting new Netflix movies on the way, but sadly, the curtain call for others.

There are 54 Netflix movies being chopped in January – I know, it hurts me too – but it's action and sci-fi movies that are bearing the brunt in this list, most of them with over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. There's not a lot of time left before they leave Netflix, so if you're looking for movies to bring you out of the festivities and back, these are the ones to go for – kicking things off with this action-packed blockbuster from Edgar Wright.

If you love the soundtrack and choppy editing style that Edgar Wright has built his career on, then you won't want to miss his action-thriller Baby Driver before it leaves Netflix in the new year.

Ansel Elgort stars as Baby, a partially hearing-impaired getaway driver who can conduct the swiftest of moves with the right song playing. Contracted to work for mob boss Doc (Kevin Spacey), he's been assisting him on planned robberies to pay off a debt, but decides this is no longer the life he wants to lead.

When he meets girlfriend Debora (Lily James), he sees it as his chance to finally make a clean escape from his crime-ridden life, but he finds himself in a difficult position when Doc enlists his help for one more robbery with a crew of thugs who are too violent to stick to Doc's plans. Will Baby make it out alive?

Mad Max: Fury Road is two hours of non-stop action and road rage, with one gripping sequence after the next that keeps you hooked the entire time - as does its prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

This action flick takes place in a dystopian desert land where brutal ruler Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) holds survivors of the apocalypse hostage in his fortress. When Joe sends his loyal lieutenant, Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron), across the desert to trade produce and water for petrol and ammunition, she rebels against him by stealing his five captive wives to help them escape.

On the way, she runs into former captive Max (Tom Hardy), the two form an unlikely alliance banding together to outrun Joe's soldiers and help the wives to safety.

This multi-Oscar-nominated sci-fi adventure will run its course with Netflix come January 1, so the clock is ticking.

Based on the novel by Andy Weir, who also wrote the book for the upcoming Ryan Gosling action pic Project Hail Mary (2026), a team of astronauts is forced to abort their mission to Mars when they're unexpectedly hit by a space storm. All escape, except for astronaut and botanist Mark Watney (Matt Damon), who's believed to be dead after he's struck.

Unknown to his crew members, who have landed back on Earth, Mark survives the space storm. Stuck on Mars with limited resources, he must work against the clock to signal to Earth that he's still alive in the hope that NASA will conduct a rescue mission to bring him home.
