'We start shooting pretty soon': Bridgerton season 5 already has a 'finished' script — but the finale is still a 'work in progress'

We've only just finished binging Bridgerton season 4 part 2 on Netflix, but there's already a number of questions heading into the already confirmed season 5.

With Benedict and Sophie set to take a back seat, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) is the obvious choice to take over the leading role. She's had a much quieter outing in season 4 part 2, after failing to avoid Violet's matchmaking efforts in part 1.

'Those conversations happened as soon as we finished shooting season 4'

"We're really keen to try to pace up our release schedule," Brownell explains. "So with season 5, we're pretty much done already with the scripts. We have finished the writers room, and I'm just doing a final pass on the finale. We start shooting pretty soon. Those conversations happened as soon as we finished shooting season four."

With this in mind, I don't think it's a huge leap to assume we might hear some more solid information about season 5 in the near future, particularly concerning who gets the all-important leading role.

But if you think fans can influence what's going to happen, think again.

"I think I've seen every theory, and they're often diametrically opposed, or go in completely different directions," Brownell continues. "So there's always someone who's pretty close. But it's really interesting because I don't know if people realize that by the time they've reacted to the current season, we've already finished writing the next season.

"We're not able to steal people's theories, which I wish we could sometimes, but the scripts are already locked."

Damn, there goes my hopes for a Violet (Ruth Gemmell) spinoff season after her incredible season 4 single woman storyline.

"I would watch the hell out of it. I leave spin off territory to Shonda [Rimes]. I'm focused on trying to get through eight seasons of Bridgerton. But, yeah, I'd love that," Brownell agrees. Dare to dream, I suppose.
