Echo Spot vs Echo Pop: which smart speaker deal is the best one to buy before Prime Day ends?

Amazon is always quite generous with Prime Day deals on the best smart speakers, especially with its own range of Echo devices. If you're after a simple yet effective smart speaker, look no further than the Echo Pop and Echo Spot models.

The Echo Spot is at its last year's Black Friday price ($44.99 down from $79.99 in the US, and the same for the UK), whereas the Echo Pop smart speaker is now just $24.99 (£24.99 in the UK). But while the latter is the cheaper model, that doesn't necessarily mean it's the one you're looking for.
Both smart speakers have a lot of things in common, but they also have their own unique functions - so which one is the right one for you?
Amazon Prime Day Echo Spot deals
Record-low price: Amazon's flagship smart alarm comes with a small display that not only shows you the time, but also displays music you're listening to when you connect your music streaming service account.
Just like its US listing, shoppers in the UK can also grab an Echo Spot speaker for a record-low price. It's also worth noting that this is its lowest price since last year's Black Friday event.
Amazon Prime Day Echo Pop deals
Limited time deal: If you're not worried about all the audio bells and whistles when it comes to smart speakers, the Echo Pop is a smart speaker that covers all the basics. It's also a useful hub to connect to other smart home devices, such as smart lights and smart TVs.
From setting reminders to connecting your favorite music streaming services, the Echo Pop smart speaker is a simple model that does the job of filling a small space with sound. It has 'bedroom speaker' written all over.
The main thing to note when considering which smart speaker to go for is that the Echo Spot acts more as a smart alarm, and less as a smart speaker. What we do like about the Echo Spot is its small smart display, which is something we've been longing for in Amazon's lineup of standard Echo speakers, so if you like the visual element in your smart home devices, then consider the Echo Spot.
Though we rate the Echo Spot highly for streaming podcasts and other spoken word media, it doesn't quite pack the punch when it comes to music streaming. If you're specifically looking for a smart alarm, this is the model to consider, but what it lacks in music streaming is where the Echo Pop wins.
While it's not necessarily an audiophile's best friend, the Echo Pop is a simple smart speaker that's ideal for smaller spaces such as bedrooms. If you own other smart home devices, the Echo Pop is also a great filler speaker to fill the gaps in your setup. I've been using an Echo Pop as my designated bedroom speaker for the best part of two years, and it does the job for connecting my other devices, like my smart TV.
