The iPhone Air 2 could fix its predecessor’s biggest issue
- The iPhone Air 2 might have two rear cameras
- This second snapper would apparently be an ultra-wide, but Apple is only said to be considering it
- The screen and design of the iPhone Air 2 might not be changing
There’s a lot to like about the iPhone Air, but in getting it so thin Apple made some compromises, one of the biggest of which being the fact that it only has one rear camera. That same compromise might not be made with the iPhone Air 2 though.
According to reputable leaker Digital Chat Station (via 9to5Mac), the iPhone Air 2 might have a 48MP ultra-wide camera as well as its 48MP main one.
It sounds like this is something Apple is currently considering, rather than something it has decided on, but we certainly hope this happens, as a premium phone with only one rear camera is a tough sell.
That said, we’d take this with a pinch of salt, as not only is Apple apparently only considering this, it’s a claim that’s at odds with another recent iPhone Air 2 leak, which pointed to just one rear camera again. Plus, it might be hard for Apple to add a second rear camera without making the phone thicker, so that would be a consideration for the company too.
Staying the same
In any case, Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone Air 2 will see few other changes, with it apparently set to once again have a 6.5-inch 120Hz screen, Face ID, a thin and light build, and the same general design as the original iPhone Air – other than the possible presence of an extra lens , as you can see in the image they shared above.
We’d certainly hope some things would be upgraded on the iPhone Air 2 though, so if all of that is staying the same, then it would make sense for an extra camera to be added.
Otherwise, the only real upgrade might be the chipset, and with the original iPhone Air already reportedly not selling well, any successor really needs more than just a power boost to turn things around.

Still, it’s early days for iPhone Air 2 leaks, since this phone probably won’t land before September, so there’s every chance we’ll learn about other possible upgrades in the coming months.
