Xbox Live was down for many – here’s what we know

Microsoft's gaming service was having some issues

If you had trouble signing into your Xbox account earlier today, you weren't alone. Xbox Live and its sign-in services experienced a disruption earlier, with reports on Down Detector spiking past 2,200 around 10:30 AM ET on February 17, 2026.

Interestingly enough, Xbox's status page showed an issue with 'Games & Gaming' specifically: "You may have problems syncing game saves to the cloud." The oddity here, though, is that the issue says it was first reported on 11/17/2025, 6:02:00 PM, and that it's taking longer than anticipated as of 2/17/2026, 10:42:54 AM.

Interesting indeed, and many comments on Down Detector were about sign-in issues as well as accessing streaming services on Xbox. Either route, it only took roughly half an hour for reports to drop back to normal levels and for the issues to mostly resolve.

Here's a look at the Xbox Status page, as I wrote above, it certainly looks a little strange, but does show an active issue with 'Limited' functionality.

Down Detector reports are dropping

Well, it seems this might be a short-lived disruption to Xbox Live, as reports on Down Detector are starting to drop. While these did rise to over 2,200, reports are now under 1,000 at 749 – still a spike higher than the baseline, but showing fewer reports and a bit of recovery.
