I'm a side sleeper who’s tested four different pairs of reusable earplugs over the last two weeks – and these were the comfiest to sleep on by far

I often chop and change when it comes to needing earplugs to sleep. I don’t know why, exactly, whether the ambient sounds are just louder some nights, or my brain just decides that they are just for a giggle. But those are the times I really wish for earplugs that I can wear and still sleep comfortably on my side.

Fortunately for me, I got the opportunity to test out the (appropriately named) Loop Dream earplugs. While they aren’t feature-packed, noise-cancelling, music-playing sleep earbuds, they do a great job of dampening down noise. Plus, they’ve given my poor little ears a welcome break from the hard, plastic-backed alternatives I’ve been testing out recently.

For full-force noise cancelling, nothing beats my QuietOn 3, with their fantastic ANC capabilities, but they just aren’t quite the right fit for me to wear successfully every night. This may be from their position being slightly off, or a consequence of me being a fidget in my sleep, but whatever the reason, they can leave my ear feeling a little sore on occasion, making it painful to lie on my side with them in.

Before now, I’d tried a few different soft-format earplugs in the past, but hadn’t found any that hit the sweet spot between comfort and reliable fit. The oval-shaped foam-silicone ear tips aren’t as moldable as I’ve come to expect after spending so many nights with my QuietOn 3, but nevertheless, the extra-small ear tip size of the four included proved to be a great fit, proving satisfyingly comfy to wear and staying put all night.

The soft silicone body of the Dreams is pleasingly flexible, so they never felt like they were suddenly in the wrong place, no matter how much I tossed and turned. Another benefit of this silicone base is how easy they are to clean, and there are no irritating nooks and crannies to try and clean lint out of.

The Loop Dreams are available in subtle shades like black and peach, but most excitingly, they have them in a lovely lilac color, too. This was the color of the sample pair I tried, and I loved them. Silly, really, considering I can’t even see them once they’re in situ, but as I have a bit of a soft spot for colorful things – to the point where I wrote an article about my six favorite examples of colorful tech – knowing how pretty my pair of Loop Dreams makes me happy.

Aside from their color choices and comfiness, the cost is pleasant, too. Their list price of $49.95 / £44.95 / AU$69.95 may sound like a lot at first, but it’s a small price to pay for undisturbed sleep, and should work out cheaper in the long run if you’re someone who usually buys disposable earplugs.

So, if you’re looking for a convenient and comfortable pair of earplugs, I highly recommend checking out the Loop Dream earplugs. Our Managing Editor for Lifestyle loved them too: check out her article to hear how they helped her to get a good night’s sleep despite her abnormally talkative radiators.
