TL;DR

  • The Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor unlocks a generational leap in performance for the Galaxy Book6 Pro, with Samsung's new laptop being up to 60% faster than the firm's previous models
  • The Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 CPU also provides much better power-efficiency, which helps drive big gains in battery life for the Galaxy Book6 Pro — it delivers up to 30 hours of local video playback. (Disclaimer: 1080p local video, 150 nits brightness, airplane mode turned on)
  • The Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor also helped Samsung to make the Galaxy Book6 Pro so thin and light, meaning it's highly portable, and the on-board NPU makes AI workloads happen very fast and responsively

Samsung's Galaxy Book6 Pro notebook is built around a new range of mobile chips from Intel® — the Core™ Ultra Series 3 (also known as Panther Lake). To draw a parallel between laptops and cars, the processor is the engine — the central component. It's literally the CPU or Central Processing Unit, coordinating everything that happens on the system.

A fast CPU is a good thing, obviously, but there are other benefits besides. This article will explore the practical advantages of having an Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor on board the Galaxy Book6 Pro. Spoiler alert: this isn't just about performance — although clearly that's a very important piece of the overall puzzle — but also power-efficiency, battery life, and more.

Read on to find out what the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 chip unlocks for owners of a Galaxy Book6 Pro laptop, with additional observations and clarifications provided by Samsung Product Specialist Lee Dinham.

Core component

The Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor is at the heart of the Galaxy Book6 Pro, and it's key to so much of what makes this laptop a winning formula. Panther Lake is Intel's® cutting-edge mobile chipset that's built on the company's 18A (2nm equivalent) process, and it represents a major improvement over its predecessor (Lunar Lake) for both performance and efficiency.

The processors from the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 line-up used in the Galaxy Book6 Pro are the Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 325, the Core™ Ultra 7 356H, and the higher-end Core™ Ultra X7 358H. With the latter Core™ Ultra 7 models, you're getting a 16-core CPU, and the X7 variant also offers Intel® Arc™ B390 integrated graphics.

Samsung's Lee Dinham comments on the performance of the laptop: "Built with the newest Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processors, Galaxy Book6 Pro is up to 60% faster than our previous models, all whilst drawing similar power levels. This makes multitasking a breeze, without compromising battery life."

As Dinham observes, in terms of the performance boost on offer, Intel® claims that Panther Lake is up to 60% faster than its predecessor (Lunar Lake) for multi-threaded workloads when measured at a similar power level (25W, in Cinebench 2024's multi-core test).

What this means is that these processors cope admirably with running a bunch of apps simultaneously, featuring strong multi-tasking performance. They'll also easily run the likes of photo or video editing apps for creatives using the Galaxy Book6 Pro — such as Adobe Lightroom, for example — or other more heavyweight applications on the productivity side.

The Arc™ B390 GPU in the Intel® Core™ Ultra X7 chip delivers seriously impressive performance levels for an integrated graphics solution, boasting 12 Xe Cores which help the Galaxy Book6 Pro excel at all kinds of content creation and creative tasks.

A super-efficient CPU

Intel's® Core™ Ultra Series 3 isn't just about a generational leap in performance, though, but also power-efficiency. Intel® has designed these Panther Lake chips to be very frugal in their use of power compared to the performance you're getting, and there's a big jump in this respect over the past-gen Lunar Lake silicon, too.

According to Intel®, Panther Lake uses 40% less power than Lunar Lake when reaching a similar level of single-threaded performance. That's a huge saving, of course, and as you might imagine, it makes a big difference to battery life.

Battery life in spades

Driven in large part by the efficiency of the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 chips, the Galaxy Book6 Pro's battery will last for a long time when you're out and about with the laptop.

Samsung's Lee Dinham explains: "Galaxy Book6 Pro features our longest Galaxy Book battery life yet, with up to 30 hours of local video playback. That's thanks to the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor and redesigned cooling system which is 35% more efficient, making it ideal for people on the go."

Before the Intel® Panther Lake silicon arrived, this kind of battery longevity was only seen with Arm-based laptops.

Doubling down on efficiency

Looking elsewhere inside the Galaxy Book6 Pro, there's an important system that complements the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 chip, namely the cooling solution.

Again, the key word here is efficiency, and Samsung has redesigned the system for this laptop with a wider and larger vapour chamber alongside bigger cooling fins. The net result is the 35% better cooling efficiency that Lee Dinham just mentioned (compared to the predecessor Galaxy Book5 Pro device).

This helps the laptop get the most out of the Intel® CPU in terms of performance and keeping that power usage low, contributing to the Galaxy Book6 Pro's impressive level of battery stamina.

Eminently portable

Something else the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 unlocks for Galaxy Book6 Pro owners is the redesigned and considerably trimmer chassis of this laptop. Again, this comes down to the efficient nature of the CPU allowing Samsung to make this notebook very slim and lightweight.

The 14-inch version of the Galaxy Book6 Pro is 11.6mm thin and weighs just 1.23kg. Even the larger 16-inch laptop is 11.9mm thin, so still under 12mm (and it weighs 1.59kg), so it's highly portable for a notebook with a bigger screen.

It's the strength of the Intel® CPU in terms of power-efficiency that helped Samsung to implement a design as slim as this, meaning the Galaxy Book6 Pro is a laptop you can easily take with you anywhere on your daily travels.

AI advantage

There's a final piece of the puzzle with the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor, namely the NPU on board. Lee Dinham notes: "The NPU can now reach up to 50 TOPS of performance. This unlocks new levels of speed and efficiency for on-device AI workloads such as Copilot+ PC features or Galaxy AI apps like AI Select and Intelligent Search."

In short, AI tasks performed locally (as opposed to in the cloud) happen swiftly and responsively on the Galaxy Book6 Pro thanks to that NPU. So, if you're doing some image work, say, and need to cut out an object from a JPG, or alter the lighting levels of a photo, on-device AI can get those kinds of tasks done in no time.

Dinham mentions Samsung's Galaxy AI apps, and it's worth underlining that these perform speedily thanks to the NPU. To pick out one example, Intelligent Search — which is a natural language search, so you can ask 'where are those photos from my world trip in 2015' rather than trying to remember any file names — happens very swiftly on-device thanks to the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor.

Finding content for work or personal projects, or indeed for posts on social media, has never been easier than when using AI, especially with the process made peppier by the Intel® NPU.

Powerful, thin and light

Hopefully you've now got a good idea of exactly what the Intel® Core™ Ultra Series 3 processor brings to the table for Samsung's latest Galaxy Book laptop.

Lee Dinham concludes: "We've redesigned the Galaxy Book6 Pro from the ground up, packed with power and performance, all whilst staying thin and lightweight. On top of that, we've introduced a new Haptic Touchpad which makes input so much more precise."
