These mid-range over-ears are comfortable, enjoyable to listen to, and do a decent job of blocking outside sounds.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 have been around for a while now, but they're so good that they continued to top our best headphones guide long after their successors had launched. The Sony WH-1000XM6 might be out now, but they cost twice as much – the XM6 are a clear upgrade, but I think a lot of people will be happier keeping the £200 in their pocket. This version of the Sony XM5 comes with a soft bag case instead of a hard case, saving you a little extra.
