These are the top prompts to use when wearing an AI-powered XR headset
Transporting yourself elsewhere or organizing your desk
With the recent launch of Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset, a promise from the same brand to deliver smart glasses next year, and a slew of competitors in the wings, it’s safe to say the category of intelligent and immersive devices is heating up.
Centerstage to the experience – beyond unique controls such as eye-tracking and hand gestures – is voice. We’ve seen the mainstays opt for their in-house AIs, and on Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset, that means Google Gemini.
AI is really the bread and butter that holds the whole experience together. It can help you get your bearings, troubleshoot when something goes wrong, identify what’s in your view, transport you to other locations, and generally help you get the most out of your XR headset.
So, with that in mind, here are my top prompts to try when wearing a headset. Some are straightforward, while others are a bit more complex.
What am I looking at?
Sometimes the simplest question is the most powerful. And considering the headset is strapped to your face, this might mean identifying something right in front of you – whether that’s in the real world via passthrough, or a digital object floating in your display.
So whether you’re exploring a new city, visiting a museum, or trying to figure out what plant is sitting on your desk, your headset can overlay real-time information directly onto your view – all from a simple prompt.
You can think of it as the headset equivalent of using Circle to Search on Android, Visual Look Up on iPhone, or even Shazam – but for the physical world.
Transport me somewhere
One of the best parts of any VR, AR or XR headset is immersion. You can have your own private movie theater (maybe spin up Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere), or use it to transport yourself somewhere entirely new.
It might sound wild, but Google Maps in XR is a leading example – you can jump straight into Street View and virtually wander.
The beauty of this prompt is that it’s powered by imagination. Want to go to the moon? Or drop your desktop setup into a cozy cabin for some deep-focus time? Just ask. With a powerful AI model behind it, your headset can generate believable environments tailored to your mood or goals.
Create my ideal workspace
This is where XR really shifts from play to work. Need Slack, email, a document editor, and a photo app open all at once? Ask your AI to organize your workspace, resize windows, or even adjust the ambient lighting.
Maybe you prefer a multi-monitor layout with screens suspended around you, or a minimalist setup focused on one task at a time. Whatever your workflow looks like, your headset can make it happen – and save that configuration for next time.
Find my focus
In a world full of digital distractions, this could become one of the most underrated prompts. If you tell your headset what you need to accomplish – or if it’s synced with your calendar and emails – AI can help you prioritize tasks, set timers, and even toss in a motivational nudge or two to keep you on track.
Maybe it helps you power through a flood of unread messages or polish a slide deck before your next meeting. The key is that it adapts to you – learning your habits and gently steering you toward your goals.
Help me learn this
Whether you’re cooking a new recipe, fixing your bike, or practicing a dance routine, AI can overlay real-time guidance right into your environment. Instead of juggling a how-to video on another screen, you can see arrows, outlines, or glowing highlights that guide your hands as you work.
It turns your headset into a personal tutor, combining spatial computing and AI into something that’s actually useful day to day.
Considering these headsets introduce new interfaces and new modes of interaction, AI can – and really should – sit at the center of the experience.
While these prompts are just a starting point, and will vary slightly from headset to headset, they offer a glimpse of what AI can help with today – and might even inspire you to come up with a few prompts of your own to try out.
