Nikon has announced its latest camera to debut in the entry level DSLR market, the D5000.

Sporting a 12.3MP sensor and 720p HD shooting, the D5000 may be pitched at the lower end of the DSLR market, but it is rich in features.

Included is the option to edit images in-camera, four types of autofocus (coupled with an 11-point AF system) and 19 scene modes.

You also get a 2.7-inch Vari-angle LCD monitor, so shooting images at those tricky angles shouldn't be a problem.

HD shooting

As is the case with the majority of new DSLRS, the D5000 also has an HD video function. While not Full HD, you can now record in 720p.

There's also GPS-compatibility with Nikon's GP-1 unit, and HDMI output, so you can show off your HD movies straight from the camera.

Price-wise, the D5000 will retail £719.99 body only, or £799.99 with a 18-55 VR kit.
