Tata Motors unveils new EV Avinya Concept - But will launch only in 2025

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) today made the global unveil of the Avinya Concept, which the company said is an expression of its vision of a pure electric vehicle, based on its GEN 3 architecture. This is its second electric vehicle concept following Curvv Concept that it unveiled this month. The EV concept will be underpinned by the company’s first ‘Born Electric’ platform that will incorporate a wide range of body styles with two- and three-row seating configurations.

Billed as a globally competitive EV, the Avinya is derived from the Sanskrit language --- the name Avinya stands for Innovation. The new premium EV, which comes packed with new age technology, software and Artificial Intelligence that work in the background, will make it to the market by 2025.

Originally inspired by a catamaran, the Avinya Concept is "a product which combines the essence of a premium hatch to the luxuries and versatility of an SUV and the roominess and functionality of an MPV.”

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons and Tata Motors, who described the new EV as "a state of the art software on wheels", said Avinya Concept is the perfect reflection of what the company stands for – a creation that will not only accelerate the adoption of EVs but also lead this movement. 

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said, "at its heart, the Avinya Concept has ‘IN’, which demonstrates our Indian roots and highlights how we pride ourselves in discovering new ways to move and power vehicles."

The company said that the significant highlight on the front and the rear of the vehicle is the new identity. The EV boast of ‘Butterfly’ doors, and focuses on a human centric design. It features a unique DRL that runs across the front of the vehicle, voice-activated systems, and the usage of sustainable materials. The concept is screen-less, to bar any distractions inside the car. There is a skydome that enhances the overall sense of space and natural light, and there is an aroma diffuser too.

The battery used will support an ultra-fast charge capability, pumping a minimum 500 kms range in under 30 minutes.

The Pure EV GEN 3 Architecture offers next generation connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems and enhanced performance and efficiency. The vehicle will have high level of water proofing and dust protection, making it ready for all forms of terrains.

Avinya Concept, the company said, is built with the use of next-gen materials, efficient electronic componentry and proprietary energy management strategies & algorithms for efficiency management. The use of light-weight materials has also helped to minimise the overall mass, leading to good weight management.
