Greaves Electric partners with Mesha Energy for battery tech
To improve efficiency and bring down costs

Greaves Electric Mobility (GEM), the e-mobility arm of Greaves Cotton, has joined hands with the Bengaluru-based Mesha Energy Solutions to improve the battery technology on its products across portfolio.
Greaves Electric Mobility sells electric two-wheelers under the Ampere brand, electric-rickshaw ELE and electric three-wheeler under the Teja brand. Mesha is an energy storage technology company which is a wholly owned subsidiary of USA-based Mesha Inc.
Faster charging will help commercial EVs
"Battery is an integral part of EV and this association with the company is part of our strategy to create an enabling and robust EV ecosystem," Greaves Electric Mobility‘s Chief Technology Officer Ram Rajappa said.
"Our goal is to create technologies to address the issues that are currently faced by batteries such as handling high power requirements, accepting high charging currents and improving the life cycle for deep discharge applications. The solutions that we offer are battery agnostic and enhance the performance of conventional batteries," said Kannankote Sriram, founder of Mesha. Faster charging allows for longer uptime for commercial use cases. Driving time is critical for B2B customers, whose uptime is related to earning potential.
Greaves Electric Mobility recently acquired electric three-wheeler company Bestway, with its range of ELE e-rickshaws, MLR Auto with electric autorickshaws, and set up multi-brand EV retail store AutoEVmart, and also launched its EV factory in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu, and set up in-house financing for electric vehicles through NBFC Greaves Finance.
The company claims to have over 1.5 lakh customers and is present in both electric 2-wheelers and electric 3-wheelers segments. Under electric 2-wheelers, its Ampere is claimed to be the fastest growing e-scooter brand in the country.
Mesha Energy Solutions has patented solutions to deliver faster charging and longer cycle life for almost any chemistry. Mesha's methodology enables two times faster charging, and helps a ride to be less intrusive and more comfort able for the rider. Mesha also delivers in integrated charge balancer, ensuring that the batteries are charged and operate under optimal conditions.
