It takes a village to raise a child, but who's to say that said child won't grow to destroy everything? The drugs operation takes a backseat after the discovery of an elderly woman, her body deliberately left exposed to the elements. Although the residents of remote Lunniswick, on the southern peninsula of the Mainland, close ranks, the case needles its own way under Calder (Ashley Jensen) and Tosh's (Alison O'Donnell) skin.

The body is that of retired social worker Eadie Tulloch (Maria MacDonell), a close friend of the McCabes. Eadie worked with Billy's (Lewis Howden) wife Morag (Leigh Biagi), while Billy himself was once a colleague and protege of Eadie’s late husband Robert, a former police sergeant. After Robert's death Eadie lived alone, estranged from her son Ed (Stuart Townsend).

Tosh wants to be there for Billy the same way he was for her, but she just can't shake the feeling that this isn't sheer misfortune or coincidence. Ther's something buried here. Calder uncharacteristically risks compromising herself by developing a bond with Ed, whose uneasy relationship with his mother echoes her own struggles with her father.

A wayward young neighbor David (Stephen McMillan) and his fiercely protective mother Gina (Frances Gray) offer up a potential lead, but with Tosh left to hold everything together and Sandy straddling (Steven Robertson) the Eadie case and the wider drugs investigation, the strain within the team begins to show.
