Autodesk Flex – Say goodbye to expensive subscriptions and long-term contracts

Autodesk is incredibly well represented in our guide to the best 3D modeling software. 3ds Max picks up the prize for the best overall package, while Maya wins out for animators. With dozens of applications, Autodesk has almost every creative industry covered.

The challenge for most creators, though, especially indie creatives and small businesses, is that Autodesk subscriptions are relatively expensive and require quite a high level of commitment.

Thankfully, there's an ingenious solution to this, and it's called Autodesk Flex. This token-based licensing model means you only ever pay for what you need when you need it. And right now you can get 33 tokens for just $99, a reduction from the previous minimum of 100 tokens for $300.

Autodesk Flex has recently changed its pricing structure, and it's good news for customers. The change means that the lower purchase minimum has dropped to $99 for 30 tokens, a reduction from the previous minimum of 100 tokens for $300.

This makes it even easier to only buy only the tokens you need and avoid too much upfront commitment. Access 100+ Autodesk products, get started fast, and scale as your work evolves.

Autodesk software subscriptions are not for everyone. They produce arguably some of the most expensive 3D applications out there, especially if you're a solo creator or a small business and they require you to subscribe for periods of time. This isn't ideal for everyone, and that is why we recommend taking a look at Autodesk Flex to see if this new way of working suits your workflow best.

The minimum purchase of tokens has dropped to just 33 for $99, although this will only provide a few days' worth of use for most of the major Autodesk applications. If you're not sure how many tokens you'll need, then we recommend using their online estimator tool. All you have to do is enter which product you'll be using, how many users will be using it, and how often each month they'll be needing access to the software.

Tokens expire one year from the date of purchase, so we recommend only buying roughly what you'll need within the next year rather than overcommitting. That said, if you buy more than 5,000 tokens in one transaction, then each token will work out cheaper. Essentially, the more you buy, the larger the discount.

After you've purchased your tokens, all you have to do is assign users to Flex in your Autodesk account, and then they're free to use whichever applications they need. Tokens will be used up for as long as a product is open, and as soon as you close a product, token use will be paused. Token usage can be tracked using your Autodesk account so you can keep on top of who and what is being used.
