Vodafone has confirmed that it will be dropping the HTC HD2 despite it only recently going on sale.
The story first appeared on Electric Pig, and we've since had official confirmation from Vodafone that this will the case.
It seems the addition of the iPhone has mixed things up over at Vodafone HQ, with the device mentioned as part of a 'strong line up of smartphones next year', which is the reason Vodafone isn't going to be stocking the HD2 any more.
Even high interest isn't enough
"There's been a great deal of interest since we made the HTC HD2 available to buy in November and our initial supply quickly sold out," said the statement.
Vodafone says it will still honour the orders it has on backlog, and is bringing in more stock to fulfil these, but when this has run out users will no longer be able to pick up the HD2 from the big red network.
It's an odd choice, as the network only began stocking it in November, and customers have quickly warmed to the new device, which makes sense given the acclaim its received since its release.
We had a quick chat to O2, which is also stocking the phone, and it said that it is getting so many orders for the device that it hasn't even put it online yet so it can fulfil them all - and a spokesperson also pointed out that you can get BOTH the iPhone and HTC HD2 from the bubbly carrier.
We'll have a word with HTC to see if its upset about the move - but it's probably too focused on the Bravo to even care.

6. My name is Lorin and I'm an owner of a 2 months old HTC Touch Pro 2 and I'm thinking of getting the HD2 this week or the beginning of the next week. I'll keep both phone because i like to have a physical keyboard but i want that huge screen and that speedy processor
Anyway, i looked on xda and here for solutions to all the issues mentioned in reviews and by users and i found everything except one thing. I also saw some good reviews on http://www.HTCHD2Forum.com so if you have anything good to share, please feel free.

5. @keysersoze - did you actually pre-order it, or just register an interest? If the former, email me your details on gareth at techradar.com and I'll have a word.

4. @Garethbeavis - They're not honouring it! I've called this afternoon as soon as I saw the news on here. They advised that they are not receiving any more and that I should wait for the iPhone to come out in Jan.
I see what you're saying about O2 stocking them both, so why would Vodafone stop stocking HD2???

3. @keysersoze - it's not Apple - O2 are selling both quite happily. And if you've already placed the order, then Vodafone will definitely honour it - we have it on record.

2. This is absolute madness! I've been waiting for weeks to upgrade to this, on Monday I was told I could do it on Thursday / Friday this week as soon as more came in stock. Today I'm told an existing order will not be honoured! GREAT!
It just makes no sense to drop this phone. Could it be that Apple are forcing their hand on this???
I for one will not become an Apple Sheep - I'll be off to T-Mobile as soon as my contract ends

1. I have no loyalty when it comes to picking a new mobile phone every year. I go for the best deal that suits me and don't care about fancy features. I don't use cameras on phones and don't care about browsing whilst sitting on a train or bus.
But I was wondering is the iPhone going to kill of the choices we have? One day will we walk into a store and have just an iPhone, the token Nokia and A another to choose from?
It just worries me a little that all of the choices we used to have are now being crushed under the corporate juggernaut that is Apple as everyone seems to be clambering for their iPhone.
