Hancock is set to be the first movie to be streamed straight to the Sony Bravia

In a plan outlined by the chief executives at Sony, the company is looking into ways it can beam its movies straight to its manufactured hardware, essentially cutting out the need of Blu-ray.

The signs of change came this week when the company outlined its planned for a movie service via the PS3.

But Sony isn't containing its movie streaming to its games consoles, as the company has also revealed that it is looking to deliver streaming movies and television to broadband-connected Bravia TVs in the US this autumn.

Bravo Bravia

Howard Stringer, Sony's chief executive, has even named the first movie to get the streaming treatment and it's Hancock – the studio's Will Smith starring summer blockbuster for this year.

Even though Sony has a vested interest in Blu-ray, it is great to see a company actually use its initiative and become competitive in all aspects of movie distribution, rather than staying stubborn and putting all its film eggs in one basket.

24. I like rumours.

Like the one the earth is going to be pulled into the sun one day when it implodes.

At least I know my PS3 would survive such a disaster, thanks to it's multimedia capabilities and hardened plastic outer casing.

Did you know it also has BlueTooth? Wow.

23. I heard a rumour Sony was planning on introducing a DAB/social networking add-on, so you can listen to the radio WITH YOUR MATES ONLINE while cooking tea.

21. I heard a rumour that Sony was going to include a HD-DVD add-on to the PS3 to relaunch the format, in order to really mess with Microsoft and Toshiba.

20. Did I say I was uninterested in the fish? They provide me with countless hours of relaxation when I'm finished on the PS3.

I don't live in Dublin by the way, but kudos on the joke Ly.

Yeah, I went there with Ly. It's like we're buds now.

18. has nobody notices that the poster for Hancock looks like Will Smith has done a real smelly fart?

(BTW, I like fish too. We have more in common than you think, my Dublin-based buddy).

17. Project Olanda - http://www.techradar.com/news/audio/hi-fi-radio/latest-on-bbc-s-social-networking-radio-project-370863 - is far more interesting and exciting than all your high def TV and movie malarkey.

16. I've just realised I TOO have a PS3, but I'm not sure if I want to admit it. Damn it.

Although I am a fan of its streaming and internet and free online gaming capabilities, as well as the Blu Ray option.

But I also like goldfish.

15. Is all this because I told you I have a PS3? I feel like I've created something big here.

Right, I'm off to class, so y'all be good now, and maybe I'll let you play with my PS3 later. (Not you philocrates).

14. I just bought a bowl full of goldfish. They seem to be more interesting than Pro Evo in non-hi-def.

12. I really am just crying into my cornflakes phil o'crates, (which is Irish for Philip of the Crates).

I've just drawn myself a 50" TV on the wall with Hancock playing on it, and have fashioned a PS3 out of egg shells so I can be just like you.

10. What does ftw stand for?

And I'm sorry for wanting to stream, lyrikill, I'll go and sit in the corner and not look at my HD TV with PS£ 1080p capabilities.

Ooooh, burn!

6. Is there any need for that? I haven't got an Xbox, but I can't afford a PS3.

Pro Evo on the PS2 is fine thanks very much, don't need to stream to have a good time.
