The Champions League reaches a fitting conclusion this weekend as the attacking flair of PSG takes on the dogged defence of Arsenal at the Puskás Arena in Budapest.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been the standout team throughout the tournament, winning all eight of their group-stage matches and remaining unbeaten through the knockout rounds heading into the final. However, that counts for very little if you cannot get over the line.

PSG are a team that now know exactly how to do that. Eighteen months ago, they were widely labelled Europe’s serial bottlers. Time and again they threw away strong positions, but last season everything clicked, and their devastating 5-0 display against Inter Milan in the final was something to behold. Eerily for Arsenal, there are shades of last year about this Luis Enrique side, who started slowly in the league phase before storming through the knockouts. Along the way, they have defeated Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

For the Gunners, the path has been somewhat smoother, thanks largely to their superb league-phase campaign. En route to Budapest, they have faced Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting and Atlético Madrid and, despite progressing, have made things look difficult at times. They are here, though, and after winning the Premier League last week, they will arrive full of confidence heading into the game.
