It's no secret that Creative is in a spot of bother.
Dwindling fortunes have caused the Singaporean company to scale back its operations in order to concentrate on its core businesses - making PC soundcards and MP3 players.
The problem for us is that Creative used to make the best MP3 players of them all. Back in 2005, the Creative Zen Vision:M was totally kick-ass and put the iPod equivalent at the time to shame.
However, since then we have seen two things happen. Firstly, the Apple iPod improved massively, with millions of dollars of R&D resulting in the release of the world-beating, brilliantly-constructed iPod touch.
And secondly, Creative's fortunes dwindled, and while the original Zen X-Fi had brilliant sound quality, it was not in the same league as the iPod nano or touch in terms of either design or interface.

Creative's next big thing is the Zii Egg, a Google Android-powered touchscreen X-Fi device that has more in common with the latest mobile phones than previous Creative MP3 players. It looks seriously impressive.
But while we're waiting for that one, here we have the latest in the long-running Zen series, the Creative Zen X-Fi 2.

4. I agree with the majority of what was said in this review, but I would just like to add that; I have owned an original 4GB Zen, an X-Fi and an X-Fi 2, these were all fantastic but all three stopped working after less than 12 months. They all broke in the same way too, they just wouldn't turn on not even when I plugged them into my computer. Is this a common problem with creative's products or am I just unlucky? Due to this problem I have opted to abandon my faith in Creative Zen - as much as I loved them (while they worked) - and turn to Apple and buy an I-pod which I have for so long now avoided doing because I did not want to be a sheep and buy whatever everyone else bought. But, sadly I see no alternative as Microsoft's Zune is too expensive for me, Sony Walkman's are unattractive and now it seems that Creative are too unreliable. I don't want to have to trust another make altogether that I know nothing about, so, I'll just have to buy an I-pod like everyone else and give up my money to that arrogant, egotistical **** Steve Jobs.

3. Ok, so i made! this account on this site i've never used just to comment on how horrid this review actually is. I've only many zens (Microphotos, Zen X-fi, etc and now Zen x-fi2). I've also listened to a line of ipods and some other mp3 brands.
I am still in shock of how Apple does so well with their I-pod line. The only feature i found great about the Touch was its responsiveness and easy to use, the sound quality, complete average. Cheap mp3's i've listened to can come close to it. And yet, it's overpriced over any of mp3s.
"It's so unresponsive that it actually detracts from the experience. It's an absolute deal-breaker."
- Was unbelieved when i read this, along with most poor reviews. The screen is slower than most touch products, but using just the Alphabet navigation solves the problem (which the review disregarded). But for that minor inconvenience to be deal breaker? The sound quality, without second guessing is exceptional. From picking up when a guitarist changes chords, hearing the singer's every breath and even hearing vocalists wet their mouth (which i experienced on Pink Floyd's Echoes).
In my opinion, when buying a mp3, shouldn't the choice be based on overall music, video output? which Creative has mastered over I-pods for sure. To rate it poorly because of a slow touch system is not even a true comparison. Every person i've let sample zen X-fi compared to their touch admit it's better time and time again. And even worse, it's a fraction of the cost.
The product for what it's meant for is without question best of it's kind, not rating it mostly on it's touch capability.
Just to add; Creative have never failed me as a customer when a technical problem has arose. Some of my players have gone through rough falls etc and came out unharmed. Once on my Zen X-Fi headphones, one of the buds stopped working entirely. I contacted creative, they took roughly 5-10 minutes to sort the issue and i was sent brand new headphones within a week, WITHOUT sending mine back first.
That's my review

2. Zen X-Fi 2 is great, I was blown away with the quality of this little MP3. X-Fi techology is out of this world. I give Zen X-Fi 2 10/10. I had previously purchased a Sony MP3, it was far more expensive then the Zen. But the Zen is far better. I paid £99, in my opinion it's worth every penny. The software is a pain, but the quality of the sound make up for the stupid software. The sound quality is out of this world. You can also change the screen.

1. Creative might have looked good on paper but the reason they failed was due to the low quality players breaking down and bad aftercare. They ripped people off with shoddy devices, did nothing to remedy the sitation and word got around. Look at any review site and half the comments are from people who had their devices died and were left disappointed and out of pocket.
