Samsung Galaxy S8 poster confirms an April launch

And the iris scanner looks to be getting an upgrade

Samsung’s teased the Galaxy S8 on video, and now it’s started putting up print adverts in parts of Asia, giving us clues as to when we might be able to buy it.

One of the posters, spotted by leaker @UniverseIce, contains the a referennce to April 2017, and as the Samsung Galaxy S8 is being announced on March 29 that means April is presumably when it will hit stores.

Of course, that may only apply to the country that poster has been found in, and it still only rounds things down to the month, but it lines up with earlier rumors saying the S8 would be up for pre-order on either April 7 or April 10, and properly released on April 21.

The poster doesn’t really show anything else new, but it once again highlights the edge-to-edge screen, and with a big ‘S’ in the middle there’s no doubt that this is an advert for the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Coming into focus

Elsewhere, we finally have some details of the iris scanner that Samsung’s heavily rumored to be including in the phone. According to industry officials speaking to Naver it will take the form of a separate 3.7MP camera.

It’s set to sit alongside the standard front-facing snapper, which the source claims will be 8MP and include an autofocus – two things we’ve heard before, and the source also corroborated that the fingerprint scanner will be moved to the back.

Of course, as with any leak we wouldn’t take this information as fact, especially as Naver isn’t as well-known for phone leaks as some sources, but with the exception of the iris scanner spec it’s all been rumored before.
